From my perspective, the 80's was a decade when clubbing was really popular.  Though I may be biased, the 80's seemed casual in regards to clubbing, in contrast to, for instance, the 70's - which made it more mainstream.

   I wasn't clubbing 'till the late eighties.  Mostly the enlisted clubs on the various bases I visited which were, suprisingly, pretty impressive.  They rivaled anything out in town...

   A couple of club staples I remember are "Don't Make Me Over" by Sybil (maybe that was 1990?) and "Paid in Full" by Eric B. and Rakim, and "Keep on Movin'" by Soul II Soul and "Head to Toe" by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam and some Paula Abdul stuff like "(It's Just) The Way That You Love Me"...

  BTW, these are just some club tunes I remember.  I didn't necessarily like them... 8)

I stopped clubbing around 1985. My 'glory' days covered both the disco of the 70's and the early to mid 80's (I 'clubbed' from 1977 to 1985). I guess because I went out a lot that the transition from 70's to 80's was smooth...  You mentioned two songs that are in my all-time favourites list and bring back some great memories of the early ..

There are songs I hear today that remind me of clubbing in the eighties.  Most Erasure songs, Bronski Beat, that sort of thing.  Also Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me and Alive and Kicking.  One in particular always reminds me of me and my mate, Michelle, 'bopping' away - Respectable by Mel and Kim.

Dec 7th 1988 I turned 21. My friends and I had a little pre celebration at one of their homes. Then we went to a club in Monterey. I was wasted before we even got in the door. 

I was standing by the DJ's booth and Cover Girls "Because of You" came on.

When it got to the part where the singer was "Jumping up and down (Because of you babe)" I decided to jump up and down too. The DJ told me not to do that because the record skipped... we all know how much I love authority  ::) so of course that part came on and I jumped up and down again. Yeah I got kicked out of the club 15 minutes after getting let in  ;D

My friends were kind enough to leave the club with me.  We spent the rest of the night down by the docks picking up sailors  :-X

I had a like-dislike going on with that album.
He was sounding a little too party like and moving too far away from what he did previously.
Some good solid dance songs on it though, but I really missed the Luther Vandross style of his first album.
