i'm not sure how far into the middle or early the decade this piece ocurred..

I thought of Bruce Hornsby too lol, but you said it wasn't him. There's a song by the Rembrandts around 1990 (but it still sounds kinda '80s) where they say "That's just the way it is, baby", but that's more of an accoustic ballad, so probably not that either.

I'm pretty knowledgeable about '80s music but I think I'm stumped too. I think of Survivor as being more pop or arena rock, not metal...was it a band that was really similar to them or heavier?
