I just heard the Pet Shop Boys version of this song on one of my digital music channels and I think their version is OK but in this case I'm more partial to the Willie Nelson version - IMO the song works better as a slow ballad than as an upbeat dance tune ( I think all their other songs are great though)  :)

Of course "Always on my Mind" was done previously by Elvis Presley in the 70's and there were also earlier versions by other artists as well.

Elvis was the reason that the PSB's came to record it...when the 10th anniversary of his death came round in 1987, a host of acts were featured in a British TV special performing some of Elvis's songs...of course, the PSB's were red-hot at the time, so it was hardly surprising when their (re-recorded) version was launched as a single at the end of that year (highly successful too...#1 in the UK, #4 US)

Yet for all that, it was Brenda Lee who first recorded the song...and she never gets a mention!  ::)

I like both versions.  The PSB version gets played often on my mixshow.

I'll go with the Pet Shop Boys version and that's only if I couldn't change the dial to something else.

PSB got it wrong.  Uptempo coerced.  You can't force a disco beat on a song that doesn't want to go there.  Prime example of this is Donna Summer's disco version of Jimmy Webb's "MacArthur Park "(produced by Giorgio Moroder), but that was cool because it was such a horrendous song to start with!

I would like to hear the Brenda Lee version of Always on My Mind.

This song has a lot of meaning in it, and of course, it comes across more natural when it's done acoustically. I do like the Pet Shop Boy's version, but it's way too much pop for a song that is trying to be endearing.

Has to be PSB for me, but Willie's take on it is pleasant to listen to when I'm in the mood.

Really don't care for the song but the Pet Shop Boys version is easier to listen to.
