Subject: 70's/80's horror film question???

Ok, so my wife has this film going around in her head she's sure it's from the 70's/80's
and it's about this house with a cellar with a fireplace in it which has inside it strange little
creatures (goblins or leprechaun's) nasty pieces of work at the end of the day.
Now the wife starts see these creatures after the husband (possibly Tim matherson or
Kurt russell type of actor) uncovers the fireplace and they then start trying to kill until
finally they end up dragging her into the fireplace.
Sorry if this starts anybody having nightmares but remember DON'T have them.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP
