Back then the popular foods (at least with me, my friends, and my other peers) were Whatchamacallits candy bars, candy necklaces, Charms bubblegum pops, Tootsie Roll pops, and just about anything on the Carl's Jr. and Pizza Hut menus.

Dippin' Dots were created in 1988 by using liquid nitrogen to instantly pelletize ice cream mix.  After pelletization, the ice cream has to be kept at around -40F or it'll turn into a big glob of normal ice cream.  Keeping it that cold requires dry ice or other cooling techniques that don't work very well at home or in most retail outlets, which is why you'll typically only find them in vending machines, kiosks at amusement parks, or shipped via 2-day courier after ordering online.

The bad news is that Dippin' Dots Inc. declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy today.

The good news is that Chapter 11 isn't the end of the world.  Someone might pick up the assets for ten cents on the dollar and keep shipping 'em.  Like they did with Mother's Cookies.

Cool Ranch Doritos.

That sucks about Dipping Dots. You always see though in vending machines at museums and aquariums.
Every now and again I'd get a bowl.

Yep that's the stuff.  OMG was that ever good.  my brother and I used to eat that stuff like it was going out of style.  I remember the clerk at the store saying that I shouldn't open the tube while I was still in the store because it would look like I didn't pay for it.  :o

Bonkers were great. Remember the commercials for that candy? Someone would pop a Bonkers in their mouth and some sort of GIANT fruit would fall on them.
They had the same sort of shenanigans in their ads in comic books.

Thought of another one to add. Pizza Hut Priazzo.
Anyone else remember these? It was a deep dish pie Pizza Hut came out with in the 80's
At that time I wasn't a fan, preferring the standard pepperoni and cheese most kids go for. Looking back I bet it was pretty good.

In the 90s a guy at the last engineering shop I worked left to start up a dippin dots kiosk in the middle of the mall. The kiosk is long gone and so is the shop.

A couple things I remember from the 80s were Pringles Butter And Herbs, and Yum Yums cookies.

I really miss the original Vegetable Thin Crackers. They were so vinegary and oily and came in vegetable shapes with real pieces of vegetables inside them. They were SO good!

Also: Kudos, Fruit Wrinkles, and Twigs crackers by Nabisco. All delicious and sorely missed. :-(
