Subject: Weekly Morning TV Show

I have been tossing around so many ideas on what this 80's TV show was called. It could be Rainbow or Patches.... Does anyone have an idea what this TV show can be, which started early morning during the week, right before school started around 8am? It had a puppet named patches --- I think, and always ended with a short cartoon. The cartoon character showed a brief story. I think the cartoon character also blew up things, or fell off a hot air balloon or something like that. If you have any clues please help me from constantly guessing. Thanks
