Subject: ~Strange~ Movies from the 80s
Written By: LittleMissUsername on 06/07/07 at 6:06 pm
I can only think of three off the top of my head, but I'm sure there were more...
VideoDrome~ Starring James Woods and Debra Harry
RepoMan~ starring Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton
Dune~ Starring Kyle MacLachlan and Sting.
What am I missing????

Videodrome was very strange, but I loved it!
Repo Man sucked big time, but it's a well loved cult classic. Still can't understand why lol
Dune put me to sleep lol
One movie I thought was very strange was 'Subway' starring Christopher Lambert. It seemed like the whole movie he was just running through Subway tunnels

When I first saw Tron in the 80s, I nearly ruined my eyes. Staring at that screen with all the blue neon lights was very hard on the eyes lol

The Fly is such an excellent/tragic/disturbing movie. The most horrifying part, IMO, is when Brundle realises that his newfound strength and abilities is actually the symptoms of a cancer that will eventually kill him. It's not a horror flick, but a tragedy with a bizarre twist...
Jeff Goldblum pulls the whole thing off in fine style. He's very earnest and believable in the Fly...

How could I forget that one? it was 86 and sooooo very disturbing. A lot of great quotes in that one. If you like to use the words F*ck. and B*tch. Denis Hopper was wonderful as a maniac.

Oh Yeah! A Company of Wolfs was a fairytale on drugs. i recall this part were Lil'Red was up in a tree, and theres this nest with an egg, and it hatches. Inside is a little kings cake baby. my brain just melted at that point. Who was granny? i think it was that lady from murder she wrote.
Brazil was just brilliant, so was time bandits.

I'm not a fan of "strange" movies (weirdness for no reason just isn't all that interesting), but out of what's been mentioned I do believe Brazil would be the one I'd put on my Netflix queue --

I've seen it a dozen times or more! I remember I recommended it to a kid who was always talking about slasher flicks. He watched "Blue Velvet" and got traumatized! Frank Booth could kick Freddy Kruger's ass!
and Howard the Duck?
I saw that in the theater! It was horrible! Jeffrey Jones was pretty good in it though. When they were making "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," it was forbidden to mention "Howard the Duck" on the set. It's true!
Here are a few that are ~strange~ and I recommend them if you have not seen:
Birdy (1984)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0086969/
Kiss of the Spiderwoman (1985)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0089424/
True Stories (1986)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0089424/
The Elephant Man (1980)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0080678/
Ghost Story (1981)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0082449/

How could I forget Blade Runner. I didn't see it on big screen until years later and it was so beautiful.
I love everything, the plot, dialog and actors.

Liquid Sky
Invisible aliens in a tiny flying saucer come to Earth looking for heroin. They land on top of a New York apartment inhabited by a drug dealer and her female, androgynous, bisexual nymphomaniac lover, a fashion model.
Then it gets weird.

Later he admitted he thought we were talking about The "Crow"
