It definitely sounds '80s and I thought it was, too, before I knew. Like 1986 or so. It's probably one of the very last traditional new wave songs to become a big hit (kinda like Depeche Mode's late stuff).

It does sound like an 80s song for sure

That's because it is. If anyone has the lyrics by Men at Work it would be helpful. It's not listed but it's probably on one of the albums, though I don't know which one.

Perhaps you are thinking of a different song?
'Friday I'm in Love' as performed by The Cure was written by members of The Cure :)

Okay..you know what, it COULD HAVE been heard in the 80s and noone knew about it. So that's still one for me and someone else.
Maybe it was Men at Work and they changed the name ::)

If it was heard in the 80s, then someone had a time machine and took a copy back into the 80s ;D

its from 1992. The Cure fit into the time because they were kind of grungy
The Cure were grungy? I don;t think so. The Cure were a 80's synth pop band mostly even though they were still making good music well into the year 2000.

The Cure "synth pop"? ???
Sorry no, goth, totally, some post-punk at first (Pornography, 17 Seconds), then yes, very much pop thereafter, but I don't think you can listen to "Head on the Door" or even '90's stuff like "Fascination Street" and call it synth pop...in any case not even in the same universe as "grunge". ::)

First time I ever heard anybody confuse The Cure with Men At Work.
The Cure could have done a great verion of "Who Can it Be Now"
:D
I say the last Cure studio album worth owning is "Disintegration" (1989), but I give a tip of the hat to "Friday I'm In Love," great song.

I can see that, it's got the rhythm.
Rumor always had it Robert Smith hated that song and wouldn't perform it.
It was never the set lists of the Cure shows I saw.
You know what the should have left off all the set lists? Any song from "The Top."

Hey, I personally love anything from "The Top", listen closely, you can actually hear Robert Smith losing his mind...He was recording music for the Cure, The Glove and Siouxie and the Banshees all at the same time (drugs involved?) listening to the tracks, "Give Me It"? "Bananafishbones"? If someone could make an album showing the effects of mental illness, "The Top" is it!
Still waiting for Men At Work to cover this album! :D
