I have an Atari 2600, my favourite games are Frogger, Superman, Breakout and SUPER Breakout. I love the awesome pointlessness of Night Driver.

dude... is this THE bill? i hope you're back bro. but if it's a new bill, that's okay.
i loved the original atari VCS/2600. (very few but the pure remember the disctintion. i was onboard for the VCS days man! that's how much love i have!)
i also had a 5200, didn't actually care for it much. always was dying for an atari 800 but my folks actually got an IBM PC. that was actually wise of them, i think. but man, i wanted to play some centipede on the atari 800. it had a vicious asteroids, too. i remember once in high school, playing asteroids on my friend's atari 800 while on... well, a major class V hallucinogen. (don't be like me kids! be cool, stay in school.)
but seriously, i OWNED asteroids that night. got a score in the six digits. i think it's because LSD tends to be cut with speed.

I got an Atari 7800 for Christmas 1984; I still have it and it still works. Originally, I had like 15 games for it, but being the Atari collector that I am, I have maintained the unit, and now have close to 150 Atari cartridges 8)
'Food Fight' was the best. I used to always try to make risky moves in the hopes that I'd get an Instant Replay lol

Closest I came to owning an Atari system was a 5200 I got for Christmas '84. It was defective. Tried to return it but couldn't because it was a floor demo (i.e. on sale and non-returnable...), the last one in stock and Atari was no longer supporting the system (video game crash of '83)...
Man I got jipped..! Oh well, it was the thought that counted...
Seriously, back then, as now, I never cared about having a home gaming console. A good sound system was definately a higher priority...
Games I played on my best friend's 2600 included Frogger, Haunted House (boring), and some other one with spaceships or cars or something...

I still have my Atari 2600 VCS 6-switch faux-wood-paneled console. A wire needs soldered. Most of the games I had for it are gone :P My favorites included Yar's Revenge, Defender, Chopper Command (pretty much the same concept as Defender), Pitfall, and I dug Raiders of the Lost Ark when I figured out how to solve it. I never figured out those Swordquest series games. Activision seemed to make the best games for the system. Most of those game-designer cats there used to work for Atari.

The idea behind Swordquest was to leave one item in each room correctly, which got confusing as you could only carry so many items at once.

Rubbish. If you were lit on some serious speedy acid you never got past start...though I'm sure it was the greatest game of Asteroids ever played...in you own brain!
;)
I dunno what my favorite Atari game was, all I know is my kid brother could beat me at all of 'em, used to drive me nuts!
>:(
Rusty: Hey, you got Pac Man?
Cousin Dale: No.
Rusty Griswold: You got Space Invaders?
Cousin Dale: Nope.
Rusty Griswold: You got Asteroids?
Cousin Dale: Naw, but my dad does. Can't even sit on the toilet some days.

My favs were:
Missile Command
Pac Man
Pitfall
The one thing that was so frustrating about the 2600 was the weak controllers. The plastic points in the joystick that triggered the movement would break (plastic round ring) and putting an end to all the fun. Parents got tired of coughing up the extra $20 for new joysticks At some point (very ghetto mind you) we were playing with the opened innards of the joystick pressing the little silicon pads for movement!
I finally upgraded ;D to a Colecovision after the Atari, but it only lasted a year or so, I think I was the only one on the block that had one. I only really got it to shut up the kid with the Intellivision up the street!

2600, my favorites were pitfall and river raid, probably. ms. pac man was groovin', defender ticked me off. adventure i really dug.
you know what always got a bad rap? combat. with two people of basically equal skill levels, combat could get intense. i always said i bet somewhere, sometime, combat has been responsible for causing a knife fight.

Hmm, Intellivision owners always used to make wisecracks about how the Atari 2600's graphics looked like their grandma's knitting. 20 years later, well, I guess they were right :)
(I have one of each console, and love 'em both.)

I liked atari cause it was simple, yet fun. Nintendo was a bit more complex, but now the controls are just so complicated. I play computer games instead of console games now.
I always got pissed at pitfall. Always missed the stupid ropes and then hear the annoying sounds. The fun thing about combat was trapping someone in a corner with the takes and shooting them over and over again till they got so pissed off and quit. It wasn't fun when that happened to me though. ;D Keystone Capers was fun. I liked Pole Position, Pacman, Spaced Invaders. One thing I always wondered, were those games beatable? I dont think I ever beat the single player games. >:(

The Atari 2600/VCS system was way cool man! Remember when it was considered a luxury to be able to play video games in your own living room, despite the boxy graphics compared to the arcades? Loved various classics such as Pitfall, Kaboom, Pac-Man, Combat, and lots others. I still have a very late 1970s Atari VCS system along with the Video Pinball console that came with it.

It would be fun to play the atari adaption of "Krull" of "Mash" "porkys" on my computer.
Porky's was a neat little game, but holy crap were the controls ever choppy. When you fell into that pit, or tried to climb the ladders, the controls sometimes made it near impossible. 'Porkys' was the first non pornographic Atari game to feature nudity. To me, it's the only Atari game with nudity. I don't count the Pornographic ones as you couldn't get those in every store

ROFL, we had that pong game.
But once we got the Atari 2600, I went nuts on games like:
Space Invader
Rally Sport
Missile Command
Kaboom
Journey: Escape
and I remember the anticipation for Pac-Man when it was released, and playing it for hours against my aunt at my grandfather's house in the "kids" room :)

We started out with that too! Around 1977. My dad wouldn't let us play it very long for fear of the graphics being etched into the tv screen.

I had a 2600 and an 800 computer as a teen. Later in life, I got into the coin-operated amusements business and owned/collected pretty much every classic Atari coinop, including some ancient black and white 70s machines (except Pong, unfortunately).
Got divorced and sold it all, then got out of the business. But I may pick up another 2600 locally for $10 :)

I had a number of Atari and various other consols throughout the late 70's and 1980's, right up to the Sega Mega-Drive and, now, the PSII.
So, I couldnt tell you which consol they were from, but I loved:
Pong!
Moon Buggy
Space Invaders
Wonder Boy
Galaga
Asteroid
PacMan
Death Race (or something like that...I think it was based on a movie or had a movie based on it)
Tron
E.T
Shark Attack
and I seem to remember a game wih a frog (possibly two) that moved down a rope and kicked the enemy and other various things for points...Though this could be from the early 90's...Not sure now.

Mouse Trap
Journey
Galaxia
Kaboom
Combat
