I think I remember someone else did a hit of that song "California Dreaming" besides the Mamas & The Papas. It was in the 80's I wonder who it was

I know the Beach Boys covered it, perhaps that's who you're thinking of.

It was The Beach Boys in 1986. It charted at US #57 and CAN #40

In the instremental break The Beach Boys use a saxaphone. The instremental has more of a dreamy feel with the Mama's & The Papa's
