Subject: Unknown Song and Artist.....HELP!
Written By: rfinnegan on 03/27/07 at 11:39 am
Here's a tough one. First, the answer is NOT Nena and 99 Red Balloons.......
The song was either sung in German or French, and I think it was an American artist. The artist was female and I think was the lead for a band. I also think the band had a one-name name, like Heart, or Rush for example. Perhaps it could have been an name like The Pretenders, or The Motels.
I think it the song was released in the early 80's.
Any help is appreciated. :-\\

Um, can you give a little more detail?
Any lyrics from the song?
Don't really have much to go with, there were LOTS of popular songs in German and French at the time....

Unfortunately, I can't give much more.....
I think the song had more of a punk rocjk sound to it, opposed to a pop sound.
Yeah, I know these are not the best hints.

I'm thinking you are confusing one thing (artist) with the actual name/language maybe?
For example, the band Berlin (American band, w/ German name & w/female lead) singing "Metro" about the French subway transport system possibly?

yes she did, and there is some French on that song, wasn't there some rapper dude Fab Five Freddy or something that was on it too.
the originator of this thread (rfinnegan ) gave bare minimum clues, Why the interest in this song?

Ca Plane Pour Moi by Plastic Bertrand was sung in French, but that was 1978.

I believe it might be Blondie as well, but the song possibly is "Sunday Girl", where Debbie Harry sings the entire chorus in French. I checked some clips on YouTube, but the French speaking part of the song was omitted, so here are the actual lyrics:
I know a girl from a lonely street
Cold as ice cream but still as sweet
Dry your eyes Sunday girl
Hey I saw your guy with a different girl
Looks like he's in another world
Run and hide Sunday girl
Hurry up hurry up and wait
I stay away all week and still I wait
I got the blues
Please come see, what your lovin' means to me
She can't catch up with the working crowd
The weekend mood and she's feeling proud
Live in dreams Sunday girl
Baby I would like to go out tonight
If I go with you my folks'll get uptight
Stay at home Sunday girl
I got the blues
Hurry up
Hurry up, hurry up and wait
Hurry up
Please come see what you're doing to me

No, not Blondie either.
Here's a bit more info -
Very melodic song. Lots of instruments and not a lot of lyrics. It wasn't a song played on the radio. The title, I think, was one word, not in English, and had multiple syllables.
It may have been released in 80-83.
Thanks again, I know it's not alot to go on.

Here are a few possibilities, artist-wise:
-Sheena Easton
-Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons)
-Wendy O. Williams (The Plasmatics)
-Pat Benatar (Not sure, but I know she was operatically trained)
-Susanna Hoffs (The Bangles)
-Annabelle Lwin (Bow Wow Wow)
Let me know if there's a hit on any of these.

I'm wondering if it might be French-Canadian (which admittedly I know next to nothing about Canadian music, the only woman singer that I can say sang in French that I can recall is Celine Dion (I think she was popular in the 80s singing in French before she sang in English...

She (Celine) did sing for Switzerlandfor the Eurovision Song Contest in the early 80s.

It still remains a mystery. All great suggestions, but still not the one.
That said, how about we back-up a bit and go with only 3 things:
- Early 80s song that wasn't released as a single
- Lyrics not in English although the rest of the album was
- Melodic song, few lyrics.
My memory could be flawed....
Thanks again
