Daryl Hall also sang with Elvis Costello and the Attractions on the single "Not the only flame in town" in 1984 from Elvis Costello's album "Goodbye Cruiel World"

I am all about Sara Smile. I love that song so much, I am naming my first-born daughter Sara.

Also there was a song that came out either last year or in 2005 called "Do it for love", although maybe it never charted.

He did appear on backing vocals yes. He also sings back-up on the 1984 INXS hit "Original Sin"
John Oates appears as backing vocalist on the 1987 Icehouse hit "Electric Blue" to which he also co-wrote the song :)

As far as I know, that one never charted in the mainstream, but it might have been an A/C hit. It was a nice song

Always been a big fan of Hall & Oates. "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid" is probably my favourite. I re-created the video mix version of "Out Of Touch" not long ago and is currently in the playlist on Renegade Retro (coming up shortly) and is also available on my mix blog.

Good stuff. Do you know if "Guessing Games" was any kind of single? I think I've seen it on one of their compilations.
One thing I just noticed was that every single off Big Bam Boom consecutively charted a teeny bit lower. After "Out of Touch" I like "Possession Obsession" the best out of the other three, actually. John Oates' higher pitched vocals suited the retro new wave/ballad feel of the song better than Daryl could have.

Don't know about that one, but I remember some stuff from their recent Christmas album was on the A/C chart.

Guessing Games was an album track on H2O. As far as I know, it was not released as a single in North America or the UK, but it might have been a single in other foreign countries

"Do it For Love" hit #1 in the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart :)

Yeah I thought it did *something*, cause it was being hailed as their "comeback" album/hit.
It's a pretty song. I love Daryl Hall and John Oates.

It should have been a mainstream hit, but in today's crazy music world, Hall and Oates sadly don't fit :\'(

Guess Daryl Hall's "Can't Stop Dreaming" album didn't make the charts. That's too bad...the song "Cab Driver" is great. However, this is played on a smooth jazz station, so maybe it made the jazz charts just not the a/c charts...or not. ???

1981 to 1984 were my Hall and Oates years and these are my favorites. funny thing is, 1982 I proposed to Lady Di, 1984 we married. is there some weird connection with the band because of this?

Saw a guest viewing this, so I thought I'd ammend it to include guest appearances by Hall and Oates on other songs that charted. If I missed any, let me know.
I was browsing YouTube and found a clip of Daryl Hall hosting MTV in 1987 where John Oates stops by to promote the video for the Parachute Club single 'Love is Fire' (video starts at 5:58 in the clip) ...

Hall and Oates also have other ties to Canada. In 1982, they appeared the SCTV sketch 'The Sammy Maudlin Show' where they sang their then current single 'Did it In A Minute'

I've always liked 'Some things are better left unsaid'. I don't know why but that one really resonates with me. Funny how you can hear parts of the song that sound eerily like Rush of that era.

I was watching the movie 'You Again', and Hall and Oates make a cameo appearance at the end.
I picked up a copy of 'The Hall and Oates Singles' CD, and was disappointed to learn the version of 'Wait For Me' was recorded live. Still, not a bad collection. One of the most complete H&O collections in a 1 disc set I've yet to see

Just once, I would like to see an H&O collection include 'Italian Girls'. I know that will never happen though lol

Great riff. Simply Red stole it for his song "Sunrise."
Family Man

I never realized Mike Oldfield wrote this song.

The Mike Oldfield version of Family Man saw it's greatest success in Canada where it peaked at #29. It's popularity here was the reason H&O never released their version in Canada. However, the single we got was Italian Girls which I enjoyed more because it's a rare appearance where John Oates sang the majority of the vocals. I do believe the only other single appearance he did that on with Hall was their 1980 cover of You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling

LOL, I gotta say that song was cheesy even for H/O, but I still sing it when a hot Italian girl walks by!

This should really be a poll on the favorite single. But hey, since their biggest stuff was in the 80's, I'll handle it!
Your Pal,
Doc
