Whistle - "Bad Habit"
Kool Skool - "My Girl"
Keith Sweat - "I Want Her" and "Make You Sweat"
Bell Biv DeVoe - "Poison", "Do Me!", "B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me?)" and "Word To The Mutha"  8)

The only NJS song I like (and can recall right now) would be

1992's "Live and Learn" by Joe Public.

I never cared for Bell Biv DeVoe which were probably the most popular group for that type of music.

Keith Sweat, Bobby Brown, Karyn White, and Guy.

I also liked the song "Dial My Heart" by Boys.

"Just Got Paid" by Johnny Kemp.

Even though it came out in 1995 can "This Is How We Do it" by Montell Jordan be considered "New Jack Swing". Its got the slang lyrically for a "New Jack Swing" song.

Motownphilly-Boyz II Men

I Wanna Sex You Up-Color Me Badd

Johnny Gill, Father MC, Keisha Jackson, R Kelly & The Public Announcement, Ralph Tresvant and Christopher Williams. Oh and Karyn White too - her 1991 Ritual Of Love album was sublime!

Christopher Williams-I have heard his music in the past of couple years. I wonder why that guy never blew up in terms of popularity. "Promises" is a pretty good song by him.

New Jack Swing was the dominant style in black music from 1988-1993, and I absolutely love the stuff. Most people are familiar with the Bobby Brown/Guy/Kieth Sweat/Today/Basic Black stuff, but fact of the matter is that loads of stuff came out by obscure artists too. A majority of it was just as good as the well known stuff, but due to small labels and bad promotion it never really got the attention it deserved.

I recently helped compile and "essential new jack swing albums list" for a website specializing in covering all aspects of the style. These were my submissions.

These represent the new jack albums I listened to the most during the last 12 months:

8. Keith Sweat – Make It Last Forever (1987)
9. Portrait – Portrait (1992)

12. Bobby Brown – Bobby (1992)
13. Colin England – Colin England (1991)
14. Simple Pleasure – Simple Pleasure (1992)
15. Jermaine Jackson – You Said (1991)

Wow what a list!

My faves were always the Mastercut series, which I forgot to mention. They did about 4 volumes of New Jack Swing.

The Mo Money soundtrack was also a great mainstream NJS album.

Yup! The Mastercuts series are great for those just wanting to get to know the style. They offer pretty much all the hits in 12 mix form. Shame about vol 4 only having album versions though.

Good ol' New Jack Swing from 1987-1994 (in my opinion).  I was in middle school (1988-1991) and high school (1991-1995) when New Jack Swing dominated.  I remember in my school, we used to have school dances!!!  I was always a shy loner, so I never had anyone to dance with, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the music.  I went to my first concert during the New Jack era (1989).  I remember the ugly polka dots that Kwame brought to the mainstream  8-P.  I remember the bright clothes that we used to wear, the rayon shirts, and the leather patent shoes with the big laced see-through shoe strings.  I miss those days. It was so innocent.  Here are the New Jack RnB artists that I  bought,  taped from the radio, or listened to back in the day:

1)  Al B. Sure!
2)  Karyn White
3)  The Boys
4)  Babyface
5)  After 7
6)  Guy
7)  Tyler Collins
8)  Troop
9)  Hi Five
10) Tevin Campbell
11) En Vogue
12) New Edition
13) Bell Biv Devoe
14) Janet Jackson
15) Vanessa Williams
16) Tony Toni Tone
17) Ralph Tresvant
18) Bobby Brown
19) Mint Condition
20) Shanice
21) Tracie Spencer
22) Today
23) Another Bad Creation
24) Jody Watley
25) Christopher Williams
26) R. Kelly and Public Annoucement
27) Xscape
28) Vesta
29) Sybil
30) Michel'le
31) Lisa Stansfield
32) Jane Child
33) Riff
34) Boys II Men
35) Joe
36) Jade
37) Portrait
38) The Rude Boys
39) Special Generation
40) Intro
41) SWV
42) Jodeci
43) Mary J Blige
44) B Angie B
45) Aaron Hall
46) Lorenzo
47) TLC
48) Pebbles
