Just one. Upon reading of Robert Anton Wilson's difficulties as he prepares to shuffle off this mortal coil, and burying ~mumble~ dollars in my back yard, I'm drawn to the Illuminatus!-inspired Burn the Bastards - KLF, from Who Killled The Jams
Build a fire.
Stoke it good.
Throw them on.
And watch the B@stards burn.
Five to twelve!
Almost gone!
1987!
What the f*bleep*k have we done?
With a nod to "The Queen And I", and the sample-based rap of Public Enemy (specifically, "Caught, Can We Get A Witness"), this was the last gasp of sample-based music, and perhaps the most presciently vitriolic scream against the evil parasitism of the RIAA we've all come to know and hate. Except it was about 10 years early. The KLF's antics are as relevant to today's intellectual property environment as they were 19 years ago. And a lot more than a million pounds sterling has been burned in the process.
Trust not a man who's rich in flax, his morals may be sadly lax.

I've just re-discovered this gem too! What a great 80s track!
Also believe it or not I've been into La Toya Jackson's 80s albums... really catchy feelgood pop... I promise you! This was before she went a bit weird. Okay her vocals aren't the best but there's no doubting the good 80s cheese!

Although from the 90's, it has to be one of his best. As well as the bassline, the lyrics are just awesome!
'....so I bought a 44 Magnum with solid steel cast,
and in the blessed name of Elvis, I just let it blast,
till my TV lay in pieces there at my feet,
busted me for disturbing the almighty piece......'

You know one one 80's artist who I am listening too who never got the credit he deserved was R&B artist Alexander O' Neal. I never even heard of this guy until a couple years ago. I do listen to his songs when the come on Suite 62 on sattelite radio that I get off of the TV dish at home. Sometimes Michael Baisden who hosts a radio show called "Love, Lust & lies" Monday-Friday on R&B stations throughout the US sometimes wll play "Fake" by Alexander O' Neal.

He is a class act. I recommend you seek out and buy 'Hearsay - All Mixed Up' which is a fantastic album of remixes of all the Hearsay originals. I would disagree with the US Radio stations categorizing him as R&B. To me, he's soul/pop - just like Luther Vandross.
It does pain me to think of the greats like O'Neal and Vandross being categorized into the into the genre of modern day R&B dross.... :-\\

Heaven 17: How Men Are
All nine songs on the album.
http://www.poplife.info/bilder/909575.jpg
Boy, did the critics ever savage this record. Fairlight CMI-based electro-lounge/soul. The band was just asking for trouble (coincidentally, "Trouble" was one of their later singles). The album tanked commercially and H17's fortunes waned.
I loved that record when it came out. Fifteen years later, I got the CD and listened again with new ears. The songwriting and the musicianship is solid. It really holds up, IMO, though you do have to like electroacoustic music, as well as lounge, bossa nova, funk, and soul to really "get" the record.
"Penthouse and Pavement" and "The Luxury Gap" got better reviews, and they're great albums. "How Men Are" has an experimental edge to it, and if you go experimenting, pop music critics will spit on you because they're generally ignorant about music in general!
Unfortunately, the next album was so poor I could never listen to it all the way through. "Pleasure One" was recorded on a much smaller budget without the benefit of 20 studio musicians, and the music sounded like H17 was never in the same room together when it was recorded.

Hot R.S. (HOTRS / Hot RS), aka "House Of The Rising Sun", specifically 1980's Heads or Tails
Tracks:
1. Money
2. With Plenty Of Money And You
3. Doublecross
4. Money Runner
5. Money Baby
6. Heads Or Tails
The track listing off 1980's "Heads or Tails" oughta answer any questions as to why. Even if I can't find lyrics for either the Hot RS version or the Quincy Jones (Q Jones) version on the $ (Dollars, Dollar$) soundtrack, which Hot RS likely covered. Sucks to be me.
"Money, money, money, money!

Anybody else like Joe Jackson ?
I've been listening to two of my favorites by him
1. Steppin' Out (1982) 8)
2. Breaking Us In Two (1983)

And "Breaking Us In Two" always reminded me of "Day After Day" by Bad Finger for some reason.
I heard Steppin Out for the first time in ages the other day. Both songs you listed are amazing.

They also had two big club favourites some years before that...
'You Are In My System' (before Robert Palmer nabbed it...) and 'I Just Wanna Make You Feel Good', which brings back some semi-sober memories for me!

Driving my daughter to her Forensics tournament this morning (on the road at 5 a.m.), as I was station surfing, there was a station doing their "Flashback Weekend." I heard two songs right off the bat (the first of which I absolutely loved) that I hadn't heard in ages...
1. Dancing in the Sheets - Shalamar
2. You Take My Breath Away - Rex Smith I saw the movie just once (and then only caught part of it)....never heard anything about it again. Any idea what happened to it? (Might have been based on a book, but can't remember the details)
