Subject: The CANCON Songwriters Poll - Hits of the 80s
Written By: whistledog on 09/21/06 at 9:38 pm
* A 1979 song, but in some countries, it peaked in early 1980
** Lyrics only, but the song itself was produced in Canada, thus qualifying it for Canadian Content

With one caveat:
"First We Take Manhattan (Jennifer Warnes)"
That's Jennifer Warnes spelled "Leonard Cohen". That song can't be sung in any way other than through gritted teeth. In grainy black-and-white video. Like everything Cohen wrote.
Thanks for the reminder that this track was sadly missing from my Playlist of the Apocalypse. I've seen the future, brother, it is murder.

Don't You Want My Love (Nicole)
Don't Shed A Tear (Paul Carrack)
Back to Paradise (38 Special)
Ahhh! I have that "I Love To Bass" 12-Inch Single, which I paid nothing for, and righfully so as it sits and collects dust. :P

...also about the only three songs I know from your list. (Well, there's Santana of course, but I never cared much for him/them).

Did that one do well in the Netherlands? I was starting to think it never escaped Canada, cause I can't find it in either the US or the UK chart

It failed to escape the bubbling under section of Dutch Top 40 (which means it got stuck somewhere between #70 and #41).
