Subject: The Three Aesthetic Elements of the '80s
Written By: velvetoneo on 09/03/06 at 4:58 pm
Industrial/Streamlined-Represented by the super-streamlined and styled aesthetic of, say, '80s new wave graphics and interior design and electronics. Includes the "space age" trends.
Exuberant-The colorful styles of Boy George, hair metal, preppie fashion, big hair, primetime soaps, etc. Includes all '50s and '60s nostalgic elements.
Hip-Hop-A combination of the "exuberant" elements with neon colors and an offbeat, highly angular mode of design, which originated at the end of the '80s.
For example, new wave fashion was created out of the contrast between industrial/streamlined and exuberant.
