"With or Without You" by U2 ended up being the biggest song of the year. What did you guys think of 1987 in terms of music?
I thought "Lean On Me" by Club Nouveau was a catchy tune :)

I especially remembered 'La Bamba' by Los Lobos, which was originally sung by Richie Valens.

I remember that year so well and each song is like the soundtrack to my days in 1987 (obviously). Particular faves are "Lean On Me" and "La Bamba". Whitney was always a staple back then and Atlantic Starr's "Always" was pure heaven! I started going to my first parties at age 11 unchaperoned... great times! Music became much more pop-orientated in 87.

1987 was a good year for music. Tiffany surfaced about mid-summer here. Other songs that got a lot of play that year (at least in Phoenix) include Depeche Mode's "Strangelove", "True Faith" by New Order, Pseudo Echo's cover of "Funky Town", "Wipeout" by The Fat Boys & The Beach Boys, "I Need Love" and "I'm Bad" by LL Cool J and "Square Dance Rap" by Sir Mix-A-Lot. :D

I still remember the 1987 American music charts really well. I used to listen to American Top 40 with Casey Kasem, following it religiously, and getting somewhat excited as the number one position approached in the program. 1987 still seems relatively recent to me. I can still feel the hype surrounding songstress Tiffany, and the movies Dirty Dancing, Lethal Weapon and Fatal Attraction.

Wow. It's the year I graduated college and I don't recall any of them coming out that year.
I guess I had a good time. :)

What does 1987 tell me? It tells me just how crap todays music really is in terms of diversity..... :-\\
I mean, just look at it. So many different genres, so much VARIETY!!
Today all the charts churn out is a constant indigestible diet of Rap, RnB and the obligatory sterile 80's remix by a girl band you've forgotten the name of within days.
I weep for the future.
<sighs>

No internet, huge cellphones, and Disney was pay tv ...atleast they aired Donald Duck cartoons and the annoying twins weren't born
1987, a good year for music though
And almost 20 years...

I liked it. I remember Air Supply's Christmas album called The Christmas Album was released that year.

Jon Astley should have been included on that list, as well as Living in a box. The breakfast club should also be on there, and not to forget, Soul city, by the partland brothers.
