Subject: Fortress
Written By: WembleyBooberGobo on 07/23/06 at 8:37 pm
Fortress is finally coming out on DVD. I loved this movie as a kid. I wonder if i'll still like it after 14 years. I always was so creeped out by the kidnappers wearing masks. Did anybody watch this movie growing up?

Yea I'm pretty sure myself that 'Fortress' is a 90's movie early, maybe mid 90's or so.

There is a movie from 1993 called Fortress with Christopher Lambert but WembleyBooberGobo is talking about a most excellent little known Australian film called Fortress starring Rachel Ward. Its about a teacher and her class who get kidnapped by three men wearing masks. Great film glad to hear its coming to DVD. http://imdb.com/title/tt0091069/

Long before the film was made - the book was released and it terrified me a lot more than the film. Gabrielle Lord is a brilliant aussie suspence writer and I recommend it for a read. The film stuck to the story basically line for line - very well done. Fortress also starred Rebecca Rigg - she was a great teen actress at the time but put her own career aside to be wifey to Simon Baker (of The Guardian) these days she does a lot of "guest starring" rather than taking on full time roles.
As a side note - one of the masked baddies in the film makes a bigger living these days as a Banana in Pyjama !!

I loved the movie that starred Rachel Ward. I have it on video tape. No, it doesn't really hold up over time (I saw it on t.v. about 20 years ago).
But it's still a good movie.
