Subject: MOST 80s Song Of All
Written By: Trimac20 on 07/08/06 at 10:51 am
What song do you think UTTERLY DEFINES the 80s sound? The synths, the snares - everything in one song?
Some possible candidates;
'The Night You Murdered Love' - ABC
'Take Me On' A-Ha
'Cry Wolf' - Depeche Mode
'Everything Counts' - Depeche Mode
'Love and Pride' - King
What song do you personally nominate?

Oh wow..that is one of my FAVORITE a-ha songs..so many people act almost like Take on Me was all they ever did here in the U.S.
I'm just happy to see somebody else recongnize it. :)
Now, to be honest, I would most likely pick Take On Me as 'the most 80's song of all'--but I adored The Sun Always Shines on TV even more that TOM.
Actually I have tried to follow them as much as possible through the years, and I love even their newer albums..they have GOT to be one of my favorite bands. I just wish we would have given them more time and attention here in the states. :-She Blinded Me with Science was very 80's, as was Don't You Want Me and I Ran.
I would also think of People are People, myself. But I'm not sure if that's really about the 'sound' as much as it is just what sounds the very most eightes to ME. There are a lot of good ones...but narrowing it down, umm, I'm not so good at that. :-\\

I would say 'Money For Nothing', because it captures everything - synth, drum, rock guitar, squiggly sound effects, and great spoken lyrical delivery.
