Subject: Gary Numan

I'm wondering if there are any other fans.. I'm not talking, like, "Cars" (though that is a very catchy little number) and "Are Friends Electric?" (another very fine piece), but actual fans.

I have the Tubeway Army self-titled, Telekon, Replicas, Pure, Exile, Jagged, and The Pleasure Principle. I think those are the real quality albums.. there was a bit there in the middle where he started releasing poor albums, like Outland (although "From Russia Infected" is okay) and Berserker (Though this has 2-3 good tracks on it, "Child With The Ghost" being the strongest). I think it was the cheesy 80s sounds (that hollow keyboard percussion, that keyboard bass) he was using that really bothered me.. had he stuck with the real bass and older synths from his Telekon days, these albums would have been much better. But they just weren't.

Also, I'm not as crazy about his new Industrial direction. I LOVE tracks, like, "Pure" and "Dominion Day", but they just don't quite do it for me like his older stuff does.. although I think "Little InVitro" was one of the best tracks he (or anyone else) has ever written.

What's your opinion on this great, talented, pale man?

Shoot, silly me, I forgot it cause I still haven't commited it to a disk. If we include the ones I have but not on CD, we can also include "Dance" (about half of which were early versions of "I, Assassin" songs, it seems).

Thank you for that quality post, Doms. :D

I have a whole bunch of Gary Numan LP's.  I've even got the 12" Vinyl of "Change Your Mind" which was a collaboration with Bill Sharpe of the UK Jazz group Shakatak

Which ones do you have? I can recommend full albums from there.

I doubt you'd much be into the Industrial stuff, but the early and middle stuff might be to your liking.

I wish I could comment on Mr. Numan, as we is a considerably flexible artist, but I can't.

I dig that tune.  I also like "My Dying Machine".  :)
