Subject: Any Thompson Twins fans?

As cheesy as they are, they made some classic pop songs back in the '80s. I love "In the Name of Love", "Hold Me Now", and "If You Were Here".

Why do you keep calling bands 'cheesy'? ::)

I think they were cheesy in image, but not in music. There's a difference. For example, I think Frankie Goes to Hollywood were cheesy in both image and music.

Would you say Talking Heads had a cheesy '80s image?

More interesting, than cheesy. But only a small subgroup of the actual "cheesy" '80s bands had cheesy music (George Michael, Culture Club, FGTH, Duran Duran.) The American groups never got as cheesy as the British groups.

Very fond of the Thompson Twins (they definitely don't fall into the cheesy category)... "Hold Me Now" is a timeless classic that will be played on the radio for infinity. I also love their uplifting hits, such as "King for a Day" and "Lay Your Hands on Me"... pop music at the top of its form... :)

Thompson Twins were not "cheesy" and are one of the quintessential New Wave bands of the 80s. Very good band and had some great uplifitng songs.

The Thompson Twins were cheesy in a good way. They put on a big show because they felt they owed it to their fans. Maybe that's because T.Twins believed there fans deserved better music. I mean, I love the Thompson Twins, but I also know they gave up some of their artistic ambitions to achieve their success. Tom Bailley especially was into some weird stuff early on. He might have been musically happier in an improvisational percussion group, given what he was doing in the '70s. The thing is, after the labels dumped the T.Twins, and he and Allannah Currie moved to New Zealand to bring up a family, the only musical project they released was called "Babble." There were a couple of Babble CDs on a smaller label. I tried to like Babble, but they were just too dull. Maybe he lost something with age.

I confess I only know two FGTH songs, "Two Tribes," and "Relax." I don't think you need to know any more! Anyway, "Relax" is one of my guilty pleasures (the song, not the lifestyle, not-that-there's-anything-wrong-with-that).

Yep! I'm a fan here - and I don't particularly think they were cheesy either.
