Does anyone remember Roni Griffith?

She was an Italo-Disco singer (from America, I believe) who is best known for her 1981 hit "Desire" which was a big success in Germany, and also became an unexpected hit in Canada, reaching the Top 40 and going Platinum.

Some of her other successes include the 1981 single "(The Best Part of) Breaking Up" which hit #2 on the US Dance Charts
