Subject: "Smooth Criminal" by Michael Jackson (1989)
Written By: Stern79 on 06/01/06 at 4:43 am
I feel this is a very underrated song and one of MJ's best.
I still remember when this song was popular in January 1989 (around my 10th Birthday) and I just loved this song, at the time I thought it was the coolest damn song i'd ever heard, and the Music Video made it that much better.
I was able to find the Music Video for it on some website called YouTube. There are two different ones, the Long "Movie Like" Version and the Short "Music Video" Version.
Long Version

Short Version

How does everyone else feel about this Song/Video?

In my opinion, its one of his worst songs. Very overrated. Ive seen a few other MJ fans rave on this song over the years, but I just dont see the attraction.

I think it's one of his finest. It really has matured with age, and stood the test of time and nowadays is one of his most popular songs.
Funny, because at the time it was not promoted as one of the strongest tracks from the 'Bad' album, taking second place to the likes of 'The Way You Make Me Feel' and 'Bad'.
Smooth Criminal is now for me is the outstanding track on the 'Bad' album - a real MJ masterpiece.

I don't see how anyone can not like "Smooth Criminal". It's really the Beat that makes the song so great, it just has a Great Beat to it. better than Billie Jean which got annoying after time
I just can't see how anyone doesn't like that "Beat"

I'm probably one of the few in the opinion that Michael went downhill from Off the Wall in 1979.

this song came out in 1988 not 1989
But it peaked in January 1989, so it's both

I loved MJ's Smooth Criminal...
And also didn't mind Alien Ant Farm's remake

I really enjoyed the AAF version, which is surpsising since I'm not much of an Alt Rock fan. The video with the wrestling ring was cool

I like the song, though I prefer the short music video than the long one...

I saw a very cool dance number version of it in this very corny video of Michael Jackson's adventures with two kids from about 1989 that I watched like five years ago. Though 1995 is dated in 2006, whoa boy was 1989 dated in 2000...I enjoyed the movie, though. The dance number had this very smooth, 1940s jazz club hoods and gangsters film noir-y feel.
