I'd add Susanna Hoffs (the Bangles), and Chrissie Hynde to that list, definitely.

I agree with Prince - I loved him in the '80's - I think I went through 2 Purple Rain cassettes.

In addition to singers already listed, let me just add Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran(he had such a delicate, beautiful voice) and Ian Astbury of The Cult.

Hawk, the Slayer's Top 6 Votes In Each Category For Best Vocalist
Male-
1. Peter Gabriel
2. Michael McDonald (his vocals on "Yah Mo B There", w/James Ingram)
3. Dennis de Young (the versatility this man had...WOW)
4. David Coverdale (he's credited for the now-current trend of "screech" singing- only he doesn't.)
5. Bruce Willis (the only actor I feel that proves they can sing. J-Lo...what a joke!!)
6. Meat Loaf (he paved the way for fat white boys, in the business....thus, for me!)
Female-
1. Pat Benatar (Opera trained, and still defiant of the system. Listen to "Anxiety".)
2. Joan Jett (Husky voiced, and grittily powerful...damn, what a turn-on!!!!!)
3. Dale Bozzio (Her voice seemed to sum up the classic '80s sound.)
4. Bonnie Tyler (Very husky voiced, and yet eerily soulful at the same time.)
5. Tina Turner (She is a classic, and will always be...her resurgence in the '80s was a true comeback!)
6. Suzi Quatro (Known mainly for her '70s work, she had a few good ones in the '80s, also.)
Side note- Whitney Houston should have never made it big. She can no longer sing, and she's a crack-ho.
She's the reason I quit listening to the radio, for about 15 years.
Like her if you want to. Doesn't mean I have to.
