Subject: Most '80s show?

Written By: Donnie Darko on 05/12/06 at 3:05 pm

I've only seen like one episode, but I'd have to say Family Ties.  It has zero '90s credit (even Growing Pains, which would be my next choice, extended into the early '90s) and is completely '80s in every way.

As much as I idolize the man, I've gotta say, anything with Michael J. Fox seems very, very "80s" to me. Kirk Cameron was sort of a pale, 1987-ish imitation of him (although I like him too).

Also, there was a real "hey, the '60s are over and I'm different than you guys!" feel about FT, just between Alex and his folks, from what I've seen.

Would you say Boy Meets World is kind of the '90s equivalent of Growing Pains?  It seems to sort of have left off where Growing Pains ended (and the dads in the two shows are like ... the same person  ;D)

I only watched a few episodes when it was actually airing, but I'd say so. It's, to be honest, almost "80slike", just in its presentation. I do recall kinda idolizing Cory, though - I was 13 or 14 and he was 16, seemed cool, had a girlfriend, etc, so it's very very "1978er cool" if you know what I mean.

I think Cory's older brother Eric is like Kirk Cameron's "Mikey" done better.

True. I'd say Cory and Eric (based on what I remember) were more like peers/buddies, though. Whereas Ben and Mike were more like little/big brothers, but overall it's sort of the same.

To me, Dynasty and Dallas are the ideals of the '80s.

I'd also say "Wayne" from The Wonder Years is their kindred.
