Subject: movies in the 80's about stealing cars & chop shops

Hello again. I need help with the name of another movie. I remember seeing this movie on cable in the late 80's with this plot. About the only thing I think I remember about this particular movie is a young guy was attempting to slim-jim into a car & another car thief walked up to him & said something like "you're on my turf" & I think he cut the guys hand with a knife.
Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
