I know William Katt played the Greatest American Hero, but what was the characters real name? What school did he teach at? How did he get that suit anyway? :P

Ralph Hinkley. Ralph did not have a public superhero persona, he did all his good deeds incognito while his FBI agent partner got all the credit. Only the FBI agent and Ralph's girlfriend Pam (Connie Sellecca) knew about the red suit. Anyone else who saw him in the suit thought he was crazy or gay. He got the suit from aliens out in the California desert, where he lost the instruction book.

It was Hinkley only for a few eps or the first season from memory. Then Pres Reagan got shot by the guy with same surname so they changed Ralphs name to Handley.
