Subject: Alternate Album Sleeves / Album Titles?

Written By: whistledog on 03/29/06 at 2:40 am

How come some 80's albums have different album art in different countries, or different album titles?  Here are some of them (feel free to add more) ...

1982 - The Party's Over by Talk Talk
(I have the red one on the left)

1981 - World's Apart by Saga
(Again, I have the one on the left)

1987 - Bridge of Spies by T'Pau.  In North America, it was released as just a self-titled album

------------------------

1985 - Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout.  In North America, it was released as Two Wheels Good

------------------------

1986 - Music From the Edge of Heaven by Wham! (pictured on the left) It was an album that contained 8 new songs.  In the UK and pretty much everywhere that wasn't US or Canada, it was released as The Final (pictured on the right), and was essentially a greatest hits album containing 13 of their hits

1984 - Greatest Hits by Shakin' Stevens.  For North American release, it featured the same album sleeve, only it was called "A Rockin' Good Way".  This release did not include "It's Raining", "Blue Christmas" or "Hot Dog", but it did include the album track "The Bop Won't Stop"

1985 - Baggariddim by UB40.  In North America, it was released as an EP only called Little Baggariddim and featured a completely different album sleeve

1983 - Madonna by Madonna.  In the UK, it was re-issued in 1985 as The First Album and featured a different album sleeve

1984 - Make it Big by Wham!.  The one on the right was what North America got, so I assume the white one on the right is the international edition?  They both feature the same songs

Maybe something inherent in the character of the American/British/German/Japanese peoples makes them more likely to relate to the album, and thus buy it?  ;D
