Subject: Lets build a mix tape!

Written By: Tony J Case on 03/20/06 at 11:11 pm

I have something like 10 CDs full of MP3's from the 80s. While this is cool and all, it makes it a pain to go from say Thriller to Ghostbusters - having to swap discs and all (specialy while driving).

An CD sampled at 128 bitrate will hold roughly 115 or so songs. So, lets assume that I have access to all major (and most minor) hits from the 80's. (And if I dont have it, my roommate from college will do and if she doesnt, my OTHER king of the 80's music friend will) Throw out 10 songs that you JUST cant live without from the 80's. Doesnt matter if someone else mentioned it - multiple votes will decide who lives and who dies incase of too many songs.

But - fill up my CD. What should be in my Best of the 80's mix tape?

I can beat you on that one.  I have 28 CD's full of MP3's of every Billboard Hit of the 80's

What you could do is play your songs in shuffle mode, and the order that they play are the songs you could put on your mix tape :)

Okay, I am horrible at the narrowing down thing. But I will try.

Let's see... I'm trying to pick 80's stuff...

Cliff Richard would be on there. Maybe "Give a Little Bit More" or "Never Say Die (Give a Little Bit More)" or "Wired For Sound" or "Some People" or "Please Don't Fall in Love."

"A Good Heart" by Feargal Sharkey, or maybe "Never Never" by Assembly... he's a cool vocalist.

Gotta have a Loverboy song - "The Kid Is Hot Tonite" would probably get my vote.

Donna Summer was still smokin' in the 80's. "State of Independence," "Love Is In Control (Finger on the Trigger)," and "Dinner With Gershwin" are great.

Clout would make it. I'm thinking "The Best of Me" or "Portable Radio."

I'm not even gonna try to narrow down which Cars or ELO song, but they gotta be there.

Bryan Adams! "Straight From the Heart" is a personal favourite. "This Time" is cool too.

Fun Boy Three: "Tunnel of Love"

F. R. David: "Words"

And we need some country music! Maybe Crystal Gayle's "The Sound of Goodbye" or Alabama's "Love in the First Degree" or "Bop" by Dan Seals

The Moody Blues: I'm thinking "Your Wildest Dreams" would be my pick

"Through the Fire" by Chaka Khan

Some Adam Ant! "Desperate But Not Serious" or "Vive Le Rock"

80's Dave Edmunds, like "High School Nights" or "Slipping Away"

"We Close Our Eyes" by Go West

Nick Kamen: "Each Time You Break My Heart" ... sucker for this tune

Can one do the 80's without Madonna? Maybe "Live to Tell" or "Material Girl"

"Would I Lie to You" or "There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart)" or "Here Comes the Rain Again" or one of the many other great Eurythmics song

I have a feeling I could ramble on like this forever, so I'm gonna quit here.

Just a thought...pick one song per year.  These would be my picks from the top 10 songs of each year:

1980: "Call Me" - Blondie, or "Funkytown" - Lipps, Inc.
1981: "Jessie's Girl" - Rick Springfield
1982: "Centerfold" - J. Geils Band
1983: "Down Under" - Men at Work
1984: "Hold Me Now" - Thompson Twins
1985: "Shout" - Tears for Fears
1986: "Kyrie" - Mr. Mister
1987: "With or Without You" - U2
1988: "Wishing Well" - Terence Trent D'arby
1989: "When I See You Smile" - Bad English

99 Red Balloons - Nena

Take On Me - Aha

Heat Of The Moment - Asia

High Enough - Damn Yankees

I Think I'm In Love - Eddie Money

King Of Wishful Thinking - Go West

Crazy - Ice House

In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel :D

Sussidio - Phil Collins

A Letter To Elise - The Cure

This is a big sappy mixed tape, but it gets the job done! ;D

Oh, and P.S. ANYTHING by The Cars or The Cure will mesh well with any compilation!  :)
