Oh, my best friend is a huge April Wine fan - and I really love them, too. I guess I was thinking that they were more of a 70s band - but they were active in the 80s, too. I really like their song I Can Hear You Calling. That from their Electric Jewels albums, which was released in 1973. From their 80s tunes, I really enjoy Rock Tonight from Animal Grace.

Off the top of my head, Bryan Adams (up till 1993's "Please Forgive Me" - his last good song IMO), and Loverboy.

P.S. The only thing I know from Zappacosta is the Dirty Dancing song "Overload" - good song, reminds me a little of Robert Palmer or ZZ Top.

That song was the closest Zappacosta ever came to success in America.  Quite a shame too.  He had alot of great songs

Here's a little video I made to give my fellow Canadians a trip down memory lane.  Volume 1 in a series I may work on over time.  10 Canadian Hits from the 80s in 1 minute intervals.  Some easily remembered, some not heard in a while.  Enjoy ...

Technically speaking, The Barenacked Ladies are kind of more of a 90's band.

They sure were, and as you may know, 'Together' was one of the most overplayed songs ever.  There was just no escape.

Which is why I hated that song!

;D

I liked the song by Sway, though.

There was a band called Moev that I really got into.  Their stuff is still in my normal rotation...

Moev was mediocre.  Their best was "(Why Would You) Crucify Me?"
They toured with Xymox once.

'Nothing can stand in your way' by Zappacosta is quite epic and recommended.  8)

I tend to like the odd song from most Canadian bands. Loverboy ('Heaven in your eyes'), Rush ('Closer to the heart'), Glass Tiger ('Don't forget me when I'm gone') and Triumph ('Just one night') seem to fit that category.

However, artists such as Bruce Cockburn ('The trouble with Normal') and Corey Hart ('Never surrender' and 'Sunglasses at night') are pretty cool. My consistent favourites are Luba, Frozen Ghost and the amazing Dan Hill.

Chilliwack,
Glass Tiger,
Bryan Adams (just his 1984-1985 songs for me)
Loverboy,
The Parachute Club, and
Rush
were already mentioned by others.

Don't forget
The Kings and their great "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide" from 1980.

I remember The Kings "Switchin' to Glide" very well from the roller rink.  "Switchin' to Glide" also made it onto Rhino's self-declared authoritative New Wave compilation series "New Wave Hits of the '80s" volumes 1-15.  I have all 15 volumes.  I pestered the Rhino promo guy for extras some of which ended up not being given away as fund drive premiums...
