Written By: whistledog on 01/30/06 at 5:52 pm
Nancy Martinez was a Canadian Freestyle artist who reached the U.S. pop charts only once with the latin flavoured dance hit For Tonight which reached #32 on Billboard in 1986
Under the name Nancy Martin, she had her first hit in Canada with the 1982 song Can't Believe. Later that year, under alias Jade, she had an even bigger Canadian hit called I'm Gonna Get Your Love which became a popular club favourite in America, Holland and the Netherlands. Two more hits followed with "Hold Your Horses Baby" and "Who Cares"
Under her real name of Nancy Martinez, she released her debut album 'Lay it Down" in 1983 and scored another pair of hits with So Excited and Take it Slowly. In 1984, she recorded a cover song of Laid Back's "Sunshine Reggae" and paired it with a cover of Edith Piaf's "La vie en rose". Recorded as a duet with her then husband Allen Harris, Sunshine Reggae / La vie en rose ended up becoming one of the biggest hits in Canada of 1984.

In 1986, she released her second album "Not Just the Girl Next Door" and scored her most successful hit with For Tonight which became her only Top 40 hit in America. Her 4th album "Unpredictable" was releaed in 1989 and was another success with the 12" singles You've Got Me on Fire and "Save Your Love For Me". In the 90's, she concentrated more on her Canadian fan base with the release of several Francophone albums
