Subject: Favourite non-80's albums by 80's Artists
Written By: whistledog on 01/26/06 at 2:20 am
Do you have any favourite original (non greatest hits) albums released after the 80's by artists who were big in the 80's?
A few that I really enjoyed ...

1990 The World Keeps on Turning - Candi and the Backbeat
1994 I Say I Say I Say - Erasure

Fading Shades- Sandra (1995)
Geheime Macht- Peter Schilling (1993)
Close To Seven- Sandra (1992)
Saturine, Martial and Lunatic B-sides and Rarities- Tears For Fears (1996?)
Galore: The Singles 1987-1997 - The Cure (1997)
note: Peter Schilling didn't put out too many recordings in the 90's except Geheime Macht and a couple of non-album singles and do some side projects. Fading Shades was Sandra's last recording in the 90's before she had her twin sons in 1995 and she was pregnant when she recorded the album. Her comeback album The Wheel Of Time came out in 2002 and she is currently working on a new one. Peter Schilling is following up his 2004 album Zeitsprung with a new album in a few months.

Good to know she's back again! Sandra was my favorite female artist during 1986-1987. In the heat of the night and Maria Magdalena are pure classics.

Depeche Mode: Playing The Angel (2005)
This is the best Depeche Mode album since "Music For the Masses." It doesn't have a song as strong as "Personal Jesus" on it, thought "John the Revelator" is within an inch. Over all it is a stronger album than "Violator" (which I still consider an '80s album even though it made the charts in 1990), and don't even remind me of the records Depeche Mode put out between "Songs of Faith and Devotion" (SoFaD was a disappointment, but still kinda good) and "Playing the Angel." "Playing The Angel" is the superb Depeche Mode album I thought they would never make!
New Order: Waiting for the Siren's Call (2005)
The New Order album I was waiting for since the big hype over "Technique" died down!
Midnight Oil: Redneck Wonderland (1997)
Soft Cell: Cruelty Without Beauty (2002)
The Human League: Secrets (2001)
Definitely better than "Octopus" (1995), which had some good stuff on it, too.
Heaven 17: Bigger Than America (1997)
I'm sorry but The Cure has not made a decent album since "Disintegration," and probably never will.

I love Maria Magdalena and ITHOTN, I like non-single songs like Celebrate Your Life and Son Of A Time Machine! :)

I don't own many albums, but "Enjoy The Silence" by DM is classic. Then again, it was recorded in 1989...

The Cure came out with Join The Dots which is good, some great rarities!
