Toto did Tow The Line
I think you're thinking of 'Hold The Line' (which was indeed by Toto)... :)

Could it be?
Kix Are For Kids (purnell) Lyrics by Kix
Don't scream when you realize
Don't scream when you tow the line
Remember the craze back in '65
Wasn't it great to be alive
(Shake) I'm gonna shake to the broken bone
(Shout) I'm gonna shout it on the telephone
(Wake Up)Gonna wake up the old folks home
Gonna let the good times roll
Let the good times roll
Don't ask me no green eyed questions
Why we do what we do what we did
I can't give you no fancy answers
'cause KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
Used to go out with Betty Boop
Spin like a top and a hula-hoop
The bubble gum twisted in my hair
I keep chewing like I don't care
I I can fly like Superman
I get my kicks from kick-the-can
I save my box tops off of Cheerios
I'm saving up for one of those
Don't ask me green eyed questions
Why we do what we do what we did
I can't give you no fancy answers
'Cause KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids Oh
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
1 2 3 4 Ohhhhhhh
Don't scream when you realize
Don't scream when you tow the line
Remember the craze back in '65
Wasn't it great to be alive
(Shake) I'm gonna shake to the broken bone
(Shout) I'm gonna shout it on the telephone
Gonna wake up the old folks home
Gonna let the good times roll

'Cause KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
Got to get got to get
KIX are for kids
Ooooo
Kix are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids
KIX are for kids

Nick of Time Lyrics:
Wrong track, wrong line
First train to run on time
Bad blood, bad news
Long rope, got nothing to lose
Mad bull seeing red
Coming at me, happy when I

Sure it wasn't Dragging a Line by R.E.M.? It gets a lot of play on oldies
Makin' a livin' the old hard way
Takin' and givin' by day by day
I dig snow and rain and the bright sunshine
Draggin' The Line
My dog Sam eats purple flowers
Ain't got much, but what we got's ours
We dig snow and rain and the bright sunshine
Draggin' The Line
(Draggin' The Line)
Draggin' The Line
(Draggin' The Line)
I feel fine, I'm talkin' 'bout peace of mind
I'm gonna take my time, I'm gettin' the good sign
Draggin' The Line
(Draggin' The Line)
Draggin' The Line
(Draggin' The Line)
Lovin' the free and feelin spirit of
hugging a tree
when you get near it.
Diggin' snow and rain and the bright sunshine
Draggin' The Line
(Draggin' The Line)
Draggin' The Line
(Draggin' The Line)

"Everybody Loves A Happy Ending"
Toe the line
Toe the line
Wake up your time is nearly over
No more the supernova
And no action guaranteed
Wake up you've had an operation
Ideals above your station
Too much reality

The answer is "Let Go the Line" by Max Webster, a Canadian band that no one remembers but Canadians. LOL
I recall another thread in song lyrics about this

Nesmen,
I believe I am looking for the same song as you. While I was searching the internet for the song, I came across this message board. So far all the suggestions that are posted are not the song I heard either. Have you had any luck on finding the song? If so, what was it?
I heard the song on an oldies radio station on my way to work. When I got to work I pulled up the stations Play List and the song they had listed at that time was the wrong one. Dang
Please let me know what you find.

I came to this site because I believe I was looking for the same song as you (not Rocky Burnette, not Toto, not the Canadian guy). Danoota nailed it for me (on this site.) Thanks!!! I always though it said "toein the line" or "chuggin the line"... never thought of "draggin the line" by R.E.M. Thanks again, ended my long search.

I just replied with a post stating REM "Dragging the line" was the song that I believe both you and I were searching for, but actually, after listening to the REM version, I realized it's a remake. I found the original and it is Tommy James and the Shondells - Draggin' the Line. Enjoy

It's always "toe the line." Never "tow."
It comes from the old pedagogical practice of requiring students to stand with their toes at a crack or line in the floor while they recited by rote Latin conjugations or arithmetic or the like.
