So very sad to hear of his passing. I had heard recently how very ill he was... He will be missed... :(

I remember he used to do the UNCF telethon in the 80's and i remember his pic on the tv guide then he has a budwiser bowtie uder the pic he will be missed

Not sure why this thread's been put in the 80s section, as his main body of work was mostly confined to the late 60s to 70s...
Anyway, I digress...a wonderful singer and a great loss...

He did have 2 hits in the 80's (You're My Blessing / Wind Beneath My Wings). Not big hits, but his version of Wind Beneath My Wings IMO KO'd the later version by Bette Midler
