The whole 'labour of lust' album is great....has both 'cracking up' and 'cruel to be kind' on it
I think he used the same rythm section as Dave Edmunds.....all good stuff i reckon..
Cruel to be kind was HUGE in Australia, still gets played a lot on golden oldies stations...
Nick Lowe was a cool dude...seemed like a nice humble bloke from what i saw
yikes ...doesnt seem that long ago.....

My favourite is "Half A Boy and Half A Man" followed by "Stick It ..." and "I Knew the Bride". I have most of Lowe's albums on cassette and I love them all :)

They did actually. The back-up band was Rockpile which they often shared, and in 1980, under the Rockpile name, Edmunds and Lowe teamed up for the album "Seconds of Pleasure"

My favourite is "Half A Boy and Half A Man"
Heh! I've still got that somewhere...
The record company tried an unusual promotional gimmick with it...half a record!
Not in that sense, just a piece of plastic with the song on one side and nothing on the other!
My favourite of his is 'Breaking Glass', but he did some wonderful songs when he first started out in a band called Kippington Lodge (who later became the darlings of the pub-rock circuit, Brinsley Schwarz)...

Here's some interesting bits of Trivia: 'I Knew the Bride' was originally a 1977 UK hit for his Rockpile cohort Dave Edmunds. Lowe's version was produced by Huey Lewis and featured all the members of the News on backing instruments.
British legend Paul Carrack was a member of Nick Lowe's Cowboy Outfit, appearing on 6 of his consecutive albums released between 1982 and 1990. Though not credited as a singer on the album sleeve, his voice can be distinctly heard on 'Stick it Where the Sun Don't Shine'

Well, he's only had two hits here - and Cruel To Be Kind wasn't one of them. My vote goes to Half A Boy And Half A Man.

"Cruel to be Kind"
That's the one I know best. I respect Lowe as an artist, but he never really did much for me.
