2 great songs I wish were on this poll but aren't, that were both #1 hits during September 1983:

"Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" - The Eurythmics
"Tell Her about It" - Billy Joel

Sorry, I just had to give those mention because they're 2 of my favorite songs.

1983 is my favorite year for Top Forty music, so it's wicked hard for me to limit myself to just five, but here are the five to which I have limited myself (second time I've pasted this disclaimer), I might pick different ones tomorrow:

David Bowie: Modern Love
Eurythmics: Love is a Stranger
Human League: Mirror Man
The Fixx: Sign of Fire
Culture Club: Karma Chameleon

My vote would have gone to King of Pain, but I guess I'll have to settle for SynchronicityII

Love Is a Battlefield - Pat Benatar
Synchronicity II - The Police

I voted ages ago but never said which ones, so if anyone's remotely interested...  :D

1. Romantics "Talking In Your Sleep" (thanks Whistle!)
*** the guitar bit that starts 15 secs into the song is just the most awesome thing, the 80s were just amazing ***

2. Kool & The Gang "Joanna" (cheesey but love it)
3. Lionel Richie "Running With The Night"
4. Pat Benatar "Love is a Battlefield"
5. Billy Joel "Uptown Girl"

I totally love Making Love Out OF Nothing At All by Air Supply. That was #2 in '83 and should have been #1. I can't believe it wasn't on the list of choices.

That was a hit in July of 1983.  It is in the "1983 - Billboard Top 40 Hits (May - August)" poll that is somewhere in this board :)
