Subject: remembering John Candy on his 55th birthday...
Written By: Chris Fulmer on 10/31/05 at 7:33 pm
Yes, had he made it to today, the big guy would have been 55 tonight on Halloween. No matter, he's still very much alive in our hearts everywhere. I always idolized him, even more so now that I know he cared for others at least ten times more than just about everyone else in Hollywood. And any film with him in it would be worth watching no matter how bad it might otherwise be. I think that seminal moment in Planes, Trains and Automobiles where Del Griffith tells Neal Page with dignity that he won't change who he is just to please others is one of cinema's definitive moments.
What are your favorite Candy moments?

Uncle Buck, Vacation, The Great Outdoors, Summer Rental.
Hey here is an interesting question. If he were still alive, what films that have been made over the last 11 years that he would have been perfect for??
I could have seen him as the Mayor in The Grinch that Stole Christmas!
What do you think? What roles were like totally made for him?

If you ever watch Uncle Buck when they broadcast it on TV, you'll notice they edit out that whole scene that shows Bug tied up in Buck's trunk. The first time I ever saw Uncle Buck was on TV. Years later, I bought it on VHS, saw that scene, and got totally confused ;D
