I didn't vote 'cause there wasn't an option to pick both.
I may be a minority in music history, but I do like both of the guys. ;) :D
As far as Van Halen songs go, Diamond Dave has more classics overall, but Sammy is more varied. The most ballad-ish Dave ever got was on a song like "I'll Wait", he'd have never done a song like, say "Love Walks in" off 5150 (a personal fave).
Admittedly though, other than 5150, Sammy's VH material was kinda uneven. "Right Now" was the best other song - the first one from him I ever heard in fact.

^ Hey Phil, "Van Hagar" is just the unofficial nickname people call the period in Van Halen, where Sammy Hagar was the lead singer.
This was from 1986 to 1995 and encompassed 4 albums -- 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, and Balance.

I would tend to agree with Marty McFly. The "classic" Van Halen songs are more well known, but if you are a die hard fan and have listened to all the material with Sammy, you'll find that there is a whack load of great songs from that era. Diamond Dave was a great front man but "stole the show" so to speak. Sammy is a great frontman too, but his attitude seems to be "There's no I in TEAM" and doesn't steel the show. I find he fits in very well with the rest of the band and doesn't upstage them. I think they had more "kick" with Dave, but they are more versitile with Sammy. I love all kinds of music, but Van Halen is my all time favorite band. ;) ;)

8) OH YES...Van Halen was..and always be the sh*t...Hagar cant drive 55 and ha cant drive the wheel of the Van Halen automobile!!! NUFF said.... :D
