Have you seen "Cannibal Holocaust" as well? difficult to watch but rewarding and ultraviolent documentary-esque Italian cult horror flick that inspired "The Blair Witch Project".

Yep it stared a very young Jason Alexander, very much a Friday The 13th clone with the great Tom Savini effects in it & all. Hard to find a version with the full raft scene in tact especially here in Australia. Man those were the days (70s to early 80s) when horror was no holds bared graphic & ultra voilent & some actually even came close to being scary aswell. Man f*ck these modern horror films & remakes, they all pale in comparisin.

Loved "The Shining". This movie gave me nightmares for years after I saw it. The scene with the elevators opening, and the blood gushing out still gives me the creeps.
BTW, if you want to see a hilarious trailer for The Shining, check out this link (you may have to right-click and do a "Save Target As" in order to download the QuickTime file). Someone took clips from the movie, and edited them together to make The Shining look like a family film, one of those heart-warming stories where the overworked father learns to appreciate his family. It is hilarious!

Peter Gabriel - Solbury Hill. You can get it on his "Shaking the Tree" album (has lots of other good songs, too).

Wow - that list definately is incomplete without John Carpenter's 1982 redo of The Thing! That is one of my all time favorite horror flicks - the soundtrack is haunting and the special effects were a masterpiece for their time. If you haven't seen it, you haven't been scared :o.
