Donna Summer - State of Independence
...but to make up for this, she DID reach #1 in Dutch charts.
Chicago Bears Shufflin' Crew - The Superbowl Shuffle
Now THAT was crap (IMHO).

Great list - I'm a sucker for this stuff. I didn't even know some of those songs were singles at all. :)
My faves off the list would probably be "Since You're Gone", "Workin' for a Living", "All Those Lies", "Beat of a Heart" and "Back to Paradise". I would've thought Huey Lewis' song would've charted way higher, since it's sort of become a trademark anthem.
It seems "Do You Believe in Love" was the Picture This album's only real hit at the time. Maybe WFAL got more popularity once the Sports album blew up in '84.

Hi Marty - haven't we met on a different message board somewhere?

Hi Marty - haven't we met on a different message board somewhere?? ;)
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of this one - there's been a void in my life since I left that other board!
Hey! Welcome Mark - glad to see ya around. I noticed your username on the Last Post category and thought, Heyyy, isn't that more than a little familiar? ;)
I'm going to check the "unsolved mysteries" board next.
I actually only posted maybe 3 messages there (I do way more reading) and that was awhile ago. Seems like a nice group though.
To return to the topic, my favourite song in the list is "You Came" by Kim Wilde. As Marty knows, I'm a sucker for a good female singer.
Mark (in case you couldn't guess!)
Certainly. :)
On that note, the only songs of hers I know are the big pop/dance hit "You Keep Me Hangin' on" and "Kids in America" which is more new wave. I'll have to listen to You Came sometime.

Amazing. I thought a few of these actually made it into the Top 40!

Growing up in Illinois in the '80s, not only do I remember the Superbowl Shuffle, I remember being forced to sing it in school! It's not often that DA Bears...DAAAH Bears!...go all the way, so naturally it was a point of pride for the entire state.
