Subject: Pretty Maids

It seems a lot of us using this site were into metal and hard rock in the 80s, and of cause we all know bands like Scorpions, Def Leppard, WASP and Mötley Crüe, but how many of you know the band called Pretty Maids.
The band is from my home country of Denmark - between Sweden and Germany - and they style was somewhere between Europe and Poison, their most famous album was "Future World" from 1987, but my personal favorite have always been "Red, Hot And Heavy" from 1984, and as far as I know their final album was "Jump The Gun" from 1990.
Pretty Maids was without a doubt one of the coolest Hard Rock bands of the 80s, and I'd really like it if more people knew about them.

Yep i sure do ;). They did the kick a** song called Night Danger which appeared in the 1986 Dario Argento horror film Demons which also featured the Accept song Fast As A Shark. Coincidentally my girlfriend just tracked down a Pretty Maids album on vinyl just yesturday & we're going to pick it up tomorrow. ;) :)

Don't know, she never went into detail & she doesn't know the band very well. The only reason she saw it & thought of me is becuase she remembers me mentioning them to her when we were recently talking about bands.

If it's Red Hot & Heavy that's she's found for me i'll be absolutly wrapped & jumping for joy. I quote someone else who put it best when i say "Tight playing, great production & memorable tunes. Very heavy, yet at the same time bursting at the seams with unforgetable melodies."
A highly under rated & overlooked band indeed. I've always liked Pretty Maids I've just never been able to get any of their albums till now. Fingers crossed, but lets hope it's Red Hot & Heavy. I'm gonna email my girlfriend right now & ask her if she can remember whether the name was Red Hot & Heavy or i'll describe the cover to her & see if it's the one.

Thanks.
You mentioned that they were somewhere between Europe & Poison. To be honest i don't think so at all. They seem quite a bit heavier from what i've heard of their music (haven't heard later albums) & a lot more professional than those 2 bands. Poison could only wish to be as tight & sound as good as this band, hmmm maybe if they didn't worry so much about their hair & makeup. The song Night Danger sounds to me more like thrash with quite a lot of melody, although i can't comment much on the rest of their stuff since i don't remember it too well. After all i haven't heard Red Hot & Heavy since the early 80s when i was a kid & their albums have long since been out of print over here. I did manage to download Night Danger a while ago with great difficulty though i might add. I found one source for it, meaning only one person was sharing it. Their other songs aren't much easier to download either & i haven't had much success getting any others. If the downloads even start i keep getting timed out or qued & the dowloads never resume again. Just plain rare & not enough sources for any of it. That's a dam8 crime.

Personally I like both Europe and Poison, but the although I do agree that Pretty Maids were more Metal than Hard Rock on "Pretty Maids" and "Red, Hot And Heavy" but for some reason they changed style, by the time they came out with "Future World" in 1987 they had become more like Europe than Metal, they're still making good music, but I do prefer their older work.

I got that Pretty Maids vinyl today. Turns out it was the very first self titled album that came out before Red Hot & Heavy. From what i know of the self titled album is it's very hard to get in most countries except Japan & probably Denmark. What makes it even more rare is the fact that mine has a much different front cover from the one pictured on their site. My cover has a photo of a woman in her underwear, stockings & black stilletos lying on her back with her legs in the air & a guitar between her legs. The photo of the women is black & white & the background is red. Was that the original cover before they decided to re-issue it with a less cheaper cover?

I've never had the 1983 album but I've never seen any other versions of it, than the one on the fan-site, I do know that albums printed in Germany and Holland often had covers different than the common versions, today that usually means that they're more expensive.

Pretty Maids had one of the BEST Metal songs of the 80s:
Love Games from their 1987 album 'Future World'

I have 'Future World' and the 1990 release 'Lethal Heroes' on cassette. One of these days, I need to upgrade to CD. In today's day and age, what's a CD right? Some things are worth owning on CD, and albums by Pretty Maids are on that list in my book!
