Subject: The Fog

Seems this is next in the re-make line. I'll keep my mouth shut but am getting tired of all these horrible remakes. It's set to hit in October.
Anyone a fan of the original? I think it was the weakest of John Carpenter's films but loved the atmosphere it had and the scene with Stevie Wayne & the ghosts on top of the radio station/light house freaks me out every time.

It took me awhile to get used to the original, it creeped me out as a kid, now I have it on DVD.
Assualt On Precient 13, an earlier John Carpenter film was remaded and released earlier this year.
The irony is that John Carpenter remaded a couple of movies himself, The Thing (originally called The Thing From Another World) and The Village of The darned.

Did you do that? Or did the swear filter just make the title a whole lot funnier? :D

Haven't seen the remake of Assault on P13 and it's been years since I saw the original. The Fog I loved instantly, I guess I was 12 or 13 when it came out, just had a great atmosphere that was eerie.
Yeah, The Thing was a remake...and pretty gross in parts LOL! Loved that one. But it seems when we got remakes, they added to the story, it had more substance. Today, it just seems they it's all CGI effects, and whatever they can do to get the kids of today in to see them. They seem empty.
But then, I'm just a jaded old man with a bad attitude? :-\\ LOL! I dunno.
Remember the really creepy old films...Is there anyone in our age bracket who saw Burnt Offerings (yes, I know it was '76) who can ever forget that hellacious chauffeur? That dude gave me nightmares for a week. I have it on DVD and watch it often, still creeps me out but no nightmares. I have mentioned it around teens and early 20 somethings who have seen it and said it was junk and stupid. Whatever....I dunno.

Rent it...but you gotta watch it with the lights out and right before you go to bed <maniacal laugh> :D I'm embarrassed to admit the first time I saw it, it bothered me so bad that my mom had to sleep with me. Now I think it's just a great, creepy haunted house film

"The Fog" was good. So was "Burnt Offerings. I saw them both in drive-ins, which seemed to add to the creepiness. I also liked "Phantasm". You know, thinking about it, the 70's and 80's had some great horror movies.

Phantasm was not bad, if you like that movie then check out Bubba Ho Tep (I know it's more current film), it's directed by the same guy who directed Phantasm, and stars one of my favorite horror actors, Bruce Campbell.
I also think that Evil Dead 2 is a good film.
