Okay, let me bite the bullet.
I've gone for Gloria Estefan (back then "only" lead singer to MSM), Kim Wilde, Kylie Minogue (still like her) and Mel (sadly departed) & Kim. All the others - not bad, but no big fan either.

No Go-Go's? I would say they are my favorite. Also Siouxsie and the Banshees. I was a big Madonna fan back then as well.

Lulu? She was a 60's singer. I don't recall her making a hit in the 80's apart from the remix of "Shout" in 1986, but that doesn't count.

I went for Mel & Kim, Madonna (i hate voting for the favourite, but she was the biz in the 80's), Gloria Estefan and 3 others. Whitney Houston was a definitive 80's chick too... her first two albums are her best ever, but sadly not included.

Lulu is evergreen singer, she will always be around.

Lulu did have another hit with I Could Never Miss You (More Than I Do) back in 1981.

I didn't add Lulu to the list because I know she was around before the 80's. Remember that this part of the board is the 80's board and like I said, Lulu is 80's.

Lulu wasn't around much in the 80s?
She appeared on stage in Guys and Dolls, Song And Dance and Peter Pan, even appearing on Broadway in The Mystery Of Edwin Drood. Sat in for Ken Bruce on Radio2 and was duly recognised and honoured in October 1987 by the British Academy Of Songwriters. She also toured America, Europe and Australia.

Look at the likes of Sheena Easton. She was around alot in the charts in the 80's. Lulu on the other wasn't so therefore she cannot be included in the poll.

I don't think Sonia was big in the US. She did release "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" in the US, but the song flopped. But some people might like her and know of her records.

Lulu aslo had a hit with If I Were You in 1981, reaching 44 in the Billboard Charts.

Definitely Laura Branigan. There are others in the list that I like, but no firm second choice.
Do acts have to be exclusively female to qualify? My second favourite female singer is Marie Fredrikson from Roxette, who were definitely around in the 80s. Are they not eligible because the other 50% of the group was male?
And how about the two female singers out of Fleetwood Mac?
