There is a slasher flick from the 80's that everyone seems to forget called 'The Burning'. It truly has some scary moments. Friday the 13th, Elm Street, etc. aren't really scary, just blood and gore. 'The Burning' is a lost treasure. This film should be rereleased in theatres.

Madman scared the crap out of me when I was a freshman in 82-83. During a joy ride my senior year we ended up visiting a friend with a home in the mountains. I stayed in the back of the pickup with another friend and just before going inside the house the driver said "Don't let Madman Mars get you!" That scared my friend and I enough that we sat back to back in the pickup bed waiting for the inevitable...
Madman Mars was far scarier than Jason, Jason's mother or Freddie!

snozberries, that's a cool story. I loved that feeling of getting scared by slasher flicks in my youth. You're right, this movie is far more scarier than Friday the 13th, Elm Street, Halloween, etc. In fact, I would say its the scariest slasher flick of all time. Why no one remembers it or has never seen it always amazes me. People are missing out on a true gem. There's a chilling mass murder scene that takes place on a boat, and 6 or 7 teens die in this scene. It was very bold of the writer and director to pull this off.

It really is... I just saw High Tension last week, it had a limited run if you are into gorey slasher flicks I reccommed it.... Sure the story was ripped off from the Dean Koontz book Intensity and the ending was convaluted but the build-up was so good I forgave the director for the ending.

I must've seen it a hundred time in the cinema, I loved the last fight, and I still have the soundtrack - on vinyl of cause - but I don't have the film, apparently it's only out on DVD in the United States.
