Subject: 80's cover songs
Written By: Rob on 05/31/05 at 12:22 pm
I'm always on the look-out for good 80's cover songs.
These are the best ones I've found so far and I think you should all (especially if you're over 30) should check these out. Just so you know what the kids are doing these days. :P
311 - Love Song (by The Cure)
Alkaline Trio - The Metro (by Berlin)
Brandston - King Of Pain (by The Police)
Dope - You Spin Me (by Dead Or Alive)
Double Drive - Mexican Radio (by Wall Of Voodoo)
Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons (by Nena)
Jimmy Eat World - Last Christmas (by Wham, which was a cover)
Orgy - Blue Monday (by New Order)
Reel Big Fish - Take On Me (by Ah-ha)
Save Ferris - Come On Eileen (by Dexy's Midnight Runners)
Sevendust - Going Back To Cali (by LL Cool J)
SR71 - Let It Whip (by Dazz Band)
Sw1tched - She Blinded Me With Science (by Thomas Dolby)
Download those and let me know what you all think.

You forgot to mention Fear Factory's heavy metal rendition of Gary Numan's 'Cars'.

That's true. I did forget that one. They did a really good version of it too. For some reason though, they took a lot of crap from their fans on that one. I thought it was really cool that Gary Numan actually appeared on the track and in the video.

Yeah, its a great version of the song. I always wanted Axl Rose to sing it, but he would have a hard time topping Fear Factory's cover.

Here are a few you might have missed:
Marilyn Manson Tainted Love (Soft Cell (cover of Gloria Jones))
Mighty Mighty Bosstones Enter: Sandman (Metallica)
4pm Sukiyaki (Taste Of Honey (Cover of Kyu Sakamoto))
Kid Rock A Country Boy Can Survive (Hank Williams Jr)
Alien Ant Farm Smooth Criminal (Michelle Jackson)
No Use For A Name Turning Japanese (The Vapors)
Dolly Parton Walking On Sunshine (Katrina & The Waves)
Blink-182 Dancing With Myself (David Bowie)
Strung Out Every Breath You Take (The Police)
Letters To Cleo I Want You To Want Me (Cheap Trick)
Letters To Cleo Cruel To Be Kind (Nick Lowe)
Since I really love "Cover Songs", I have a rather extensive library of them. If you want a good selection of songs like thic, check out (Before You Were Punk), which is a 2 CD set of modern groups covering old 80's songs.

6. Boys Of Summer – The Ataris
7. Brown-Eyed Girl – Shaggy
8. Don’t Change – Goo Goo Dolls
9. If You Leave – Good Charlotte
10.Jenny/867-5309 – Blink 182
11. Baker Street – Foo Fighters
12. I Want You To Want Me – Letters To Cleo
13. Goody Two Shoes – Unwritten Law
14. What I Like About You – Suicide Machines
15. Mrs. Robinson – Lemonheads
16. Dreams – The Corrs
17. Wild Horses – Jewel
18. Message In A Bottle – John Mayer
19. Time After Time – Matchbox 20
