Before I forget this time, with adding a few more songs and making some necessary changes to the numbers, I want make special mention of one artist of the 1980's (and I know his parodies of songs, as of late {the end of the 1990's and the first half of this decade} aren't nearly as good as his in the 1980's, but you have to give a lot of credit (or at least I do) to "Weird Al" Yankovic for keeping me entertained in the 1980's -- with such title parodies of songs {even some I like}:

1.  "Ricky"
2.  "I Love Rocky Road"
3.  "I Lost On Jeopardy"
4.  "Eat It"
5.  "Like A Surgeon"
6.  "Girls Just Want To Have Lunch"

-- to name but just a few -- ;D

Just wanted to fix a couple of spellings on some songs, add the one-hit wonder, "Shattered Dreams" from 1988 & "Rock This Town" from 1982-83 and "Cuts Like A Knife" from 1983, and also add a couple of more songs from albums that I remembered that made this decade one of the best in music.

Wanted to add a couple of more (okay more than a couple) more songs and some of them are from posts above this one and some more African-American artists -- especially from Tina Turner, but Michael Jackson is represented by in my opinion his best song of the decade and one that is very dancable.

And also eightteen albums from the 1980's that I also love (that I can't pick just one song that I love from them):

1.  "Zenyatta Mondatta" by the Police 1980
2.  "Ghost In The Machine" by the Police 1981
3.  "Long Distance Voyager" by Moody Blues 1981
4.  "The Nylon Curtain" by Billy Joel 1982
5.  "Mars Needs Guitars!" by Hoodoo Gurus 1985
6.  "Gas Food Lodging" by Green On Red 1985
7.  "Especially For You" by the Smithereens 1986
8.  "Not Of This Earth" by Joe Satriani 1986
9.  "Rapture" by Anita Baker 1986
10.  "Tones" by Eric Johnson 1987
11.  "Surfing With The Alien" by Joe Satriani 1987
12.  "Green Thoughts" by the Smithereens 1988
13.  "Dreaming #11" by Joe Satriani 1988
14.  "Giving You The Best That I Got" by Anita Baker 1988
15.  "Traveling Wilburys, Volume 1" 1988
16.  "The People Who Grinned Themselves To Death" by the Housemartins 1988
17.  "The Original London Cast Recording of 'Phantom Of The Opera'" 1988
18.  "Flying In A Blue Dream" by Joe Satriani 1989

Now, I told you my list would be eclectic, because I had a very eclectic taste in music in the 1980's.

August 11th Just adding a few more albums and songs I remembered from the decade that I enjoyed listening to and sometimes buying.

August 13th Forgot two more albums, by the Police that I need on this list.  I'm not that fond of the group's "Synchronocity" lp as I once was.

16. Grease - Frankie Valli

Accept for this one song, Odyssey, I like your list, although I add more if you look up at my list and there were a few songs I wasn't as fond of on your list.  It's acceptable list of 1980's tune.

But the problem with Valli's "Grease" being on an '80's list, is this:  "Grease" (both the song and the movie) was from 1978.

And yes, I know this for a fact.

My older sister (at the time 23 years old) took me and my brother who is a year older than me to the movie "Grease" the summer before I started as a sophomore in high school which was, 1978 - 79.  My sister took me and my brother because she was getting ready to move and start law school.    And the song was a #1 song in the early fall of that year.

I was thinking 1980 for some reason... cause i knew saturday night fever was 1977 and I thought I remembered Grease being a few years after...   oops.

And you have a great list too, cnbpjb!   My only complaint is "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman.. I can't stand that song... but at least you didn't put "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin or any New Kids On The Block! :)

I'm also happy I left Milli Vanilli  :P off of my list.  Of course I would.

I was contemplating having a New Edition :-X song on the list, as well.  But it's just as well for me not to.

I don't have a list of 50, but the '80s songs that have been on my play list the past month or so are

Magic -- Olivia Newton-John (1980)
Suddenly -- Olivia Newton-John & Cliff Richard (1980)
Xanadu -- Olivia Newton-John (1980)
Make A Move On Me -- Olivia Newton-John (1982)

(all those ONJ songs are probably due to a previous post about her. Now she's stuck in my head -- with all her good '80s songs)

Promises, Promises -- Naked Eyes (1984)
Twist in My Sobriety -- Tanita Tikaram (1988)
Crush On You -- The Jets (1986)
Method of Modern Love -- Hall & Oates (1985)
Second-Hand Woman -- Steve Winwood (1981)
Money (That's What I Want) -- The Flying Lizards (1980)
Human Nature -- Michael Jackson (1984)
We Don't Need Another Hero -- Tina Turner (1985)
Everybody Knows -- Leonard Cohen (1988)
Coming Around Again -- Carly Simon (1986)
Somewhere -- Barbra Streisand (1985)
