Subject: Chicago - 1980's
Written By: iluvthe80s on 05/13/05 at 7:47 am
I'm sure most people think of Chicago as a 70's band, but they had some good songs in the 80's as well.
My personal pick are 'Love Me Tomorrow' and 'Look Away' :)

I picked "Hard Habit to Break" and "Look Away." I love to sing "Look Away" karaoke.

Hard To Say I'm Sorry and You're The Inspiration....Peter Cetera was to Chicago what Steve Perry was to Journey :)

You hit it right on the head, Mark! Great observation! The Chicago songs I really love features Peter as lead vocalist. Therefore, I voted for "Will You Still Love Me?". Yet, I did like "Look Away".
No matter what, my fave Chicago song will always be "If You Leave Me Now."

I always hated what Chicago did in the 80's compared to their 70's material.  They turned from a unique heavy jazz/rock fusion sound to a total cheesy prom ballad band. ÂÂ

I love all of Chicago's songs before they replaced Peter Cetera.

Chicago is one of my favorite ballad bands in the 80's. They made one good song in the 70s (If you leave me now) but in 1982 they changed their style and made several unforgettable hits. I choose Hard to say I'm sorry and If she'd have been fathful.

I would agree but turn that around almost....they had a few hits in the 80's and a lot of great songs in the 70's ;)

Well, one likes 70's other likes 80's. Personally I'm more into 80s. After all this is 80's board! Though I have to say I didn't care for Chicago in the 80's but now when I consider myself as an "adult" I've learned to love the Chicago's power ballads.

Oh that's fine, I didn't mean anything personal by what I said. You have your opinion, and I respect it, and I have mine. I just like the 70's stuff more because I grew up in the 70's :) You should give a listen to some of thier old stuff ;)

Chicago is a great band and liked them best in the Peter Cetera era.

BUMP!
Can't believe I didn't respond to this earlier! ;)
In short, growing up in the 80's, I prefer the Peter Cetera pop/rock period. I always liked a few of their songs from 16 and 17 (in fact, many of them - especially "You're the Inspiration" remind me of Florida. Probably since we went out there alot in about 1985, and that's when I first heard 'em).
However, I never actually bought anything of theirs until 1998 or so. As for two favorites off that list, I went with "You're the Inspiration", and "Hard to Say I'm Sorry".
For the record, I always thought their ballads were very happy and fun to listen to. They also could rock out with songs like "Stay the Night".
The only song I liked after Cetera left was "Look Away", more in a power ballad direction as opposed to the AC sound of songs like "Will You Still Love Me".
