Subject: Rod Stewart's 80's songs?
Written By: Marty McFly on 03/10/05 at 10:53 am
Just did a search and didn't see a topic/poll about this, so here goes. :)
Early decade songs like "Young Turks" and "Tonight I'm Yours" shows him moving into the pop/new wave style, but still sounding a bit like his 70's hard rock days. By decade's end, he was inching closer to the lite/AC rock style he'd end up doing in the 90's and today, with songs like "Forever Young," but basically the whole decade was his best time IMHO.
I didn't really hear much of his still until about 1991-93 upon watching MTV/VH1. However, I did know "Some Guys Have All the Luck" which is still my favorite song of his -- very upbeat and fun pop/rock, almost sounds like dance music. :D
What are your thoughts on Rod in the 80's?
Or, for those who fully experienced it, what was he like at the time, what did you think of him, etc? He's, to me, a great example of an older artist staying with the times really well. I heard he turned 60 a few months back, which means he was about 36-46 in the 80's, but from all I've observed, didn't seem it.

I like, "Some Guys Have All the Luck" followed by "Passion" (even though it was mine and an ex-boyfriend's song. ::))

My favourite: "Every Beat Of My Heart"
Through these misty eyes
I see lonely skyes
Lonely road to Babylon
Where's my family?
And my country?
Heaven knows where I belong. :)

Other.
Nothing.
Something happened to Rod Stewart in the '70s. He was never as good as he was during his "Every Picture Tells a Story" and "Never a Dull Moment" days.
His only song worth listening to in the last 30 years has been 1991's "Broken Arrow", and he didn't even write it.

Hey, it's cool to see the responses here.
I've gone back and listened to the Out of Order album since I made this thread and I like "Lost in You" more than I remembered. Andy Taylor of the Power Station produced it, and it kinda rings a bell to their "Some Like it Hot" (especially the guitar) - rocks pretty hard compared to much of his more recent work.

I have always been a fan of Rod!! I guess he is the only artist that my mom likes that I like as well. As for my favorite Rod 80s hits I would go with "Lost In You" "This old Heart of Mine" and "Downtown Train"

"Young Turks" and "Tonight I'm Yours" were both pretty good.
But I'd have to say "Passion"...

Ok, so the keytar and Rod's pants are awful but the song rocks!

Young Turks is my favorite now. When I was a kid, I loved Some Guys Have All The Luck and Infatuation - now I really do not like those songs.

It's close for me between "Young Turks" and "Forever Young", but I went with "Young Turks".
