That is just too weird. I think of it as a long time ago but not almost 20 years ago! Whoa!
1997's half way to being 1989 too!

It's a part of life, getting older. The biggest surprise in everyone's life is that they get older and things like this happen.

My son Brian was 1 and we took in a wonderful young girl named Dawn into our house for the next year....she was killed at age 19 in 19991 on her 19th birthday (Jan. 19)....My kids were SO young and I was having a great time with them...playing all kinds of sports with them, watching Bugs Bunny/Looney Toons...being a young dad was a blast. Sometimes I still feel like I'm in my 20's....haven't really accepted the fact that I'm much older now. Brian is now a sophmore in high school, Randall (turned 3 in December that year) is a Senior (He's made up 2 years in one....as he blew off the school year following Blaine's death)....Paul lives with mom in Utah (he turned 3 that year...January)...and my oldest, Richard who turned 7 in February of '89, is married with a daughter, in Utah.....LONG time ago for sure :-\\

1989, I was obsessed with INXS and Queen, otherwise it was a pretty bad year for me. Nuff said!

In the spring of 1989 I wrapped up 8th grade and middle school. During the summer I watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Ghostbusters II (a mediocre sequel to the true Ghostbusters film), and Batman.
In the fall of 1989 I started my freshmen year of high school. I graduated in 1993.ÂÂ
I remember 1989 very well. I was only 13, 14 years old. The 60s were our retro decade, if you wanted to know anything about it you asked your teachers or parents;...and invariably they told you how great life was in the 60s and how wretched 1989 was. Or you watched an episode of The Wonder Years to grasp the 60s. I couldn't even remember anything before the early 80s, and I had no idea how young I was for that. My perceptions of life were so different back then. I remember at that time I thought people that were around age 30 (28 and up) were like middle aged folks, they must be married and have kids while paying a mortgage of some kind.  And I thought anyone 40 and over was simply old, old,...old.
As I have gotten older, I realize that kids throughout time have thought the same thing and still do. Ages 28-37 or 38 is like middle aged life. 40 and over is for the old timers. That's all fine until you start getting deep in your 20s and approach 30, you realize you are not middle aged.

Wow, it's hard to believe it was that long ago. I was 5/6 years old in 1989 and it is the first year that I can remember quite a bit of and actually have a feel of what it was like, anything before '89 is just flash fuzzy memories to me. I remember finishing pre-school in the spring and The Land Before Time being really big with puppets of the characters being sold at Pizza Hut. During the summer I went to my cousin's house and to see Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, which became one of my favorite movies at the time and I even remember the cups they gave away at McDonalds when it came out. In the fall I started kindergarten (I was held back a year) and went as the Joker for Halloween. On X-Mas I remember getting a Ninja Turtle action figure and I can remember coming home from kindergarten and watching shows like Ducktales, Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers, and the Super Mario Bros. cartoon. Towards the end of that year I was also into the Berinstain Bears and Where's Waldo? books. Those are my memories of 1989, which is probably the first memorable year for me since it's the first one I can remember clearly somewhat.

I graduated from high school in '89 too (like my username implies) - I'll be turning 34 next month but I still feel like a 25-yr old, at least!

That was a great year. It creeps me out that its is 16 years ago. I still think of the late 90s as only a few years ago, but 1996 was 9 years ago. It feels like yesterday. Mind you, even then I was totally into the 80s. I still remember having Slimer Hi-C in New hampshire. Good times!

I was a Senior then and Graduated in 90. My 15th Reunion is this year and it's my husband's 20th. I know I should feel "old" but I don't, just my body is starting to feel it. I see cars made in the 80's and in my mind their not that old but then you think about it and you think to yourself ' Man, those cars are almost 20 years old now!' ;D

1989.....I was in 5th grade, going into 6th grade. I was a "tween" at the time. I remember my favorite song was "Toy Soldiers" by Martika. This is when kids my age loved the New Kids, Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Milli Vanilli, Paula Abdul, etc. My friends and I would cruise the malls imitating the older high school kids. My favorite shows were "Just The Ten Of Us", "Growing Pains", "Full House", and "Who's The Boss". My all-time favorite outfit was this gray and white, striped "mid-driftish" Gitano shirt, gray shorts, and my black canvas shoes. I thought I was soooo cool. 8)

I grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark and Germany is our neighbor, so what I remember of 1989 is the fall of the Berlin War, and I'll always remember the date it happened; it was my 18th birthday, the party that night was the coolest I've ever been too.

There's stuff that happened in 1989, that seem like yesterday. Like a trip I took with my family to Virginia, and stayed in an hotel, and watched the first ever Tales from the Crypt episode. Seems like just yesterday.
