Subject: Annie Lennox -80s sex symbol?
Written By: 80smuzikhead on 03/04/05 at 11:31 am
In the unofficial biography by Bryony Sutherland, Annie Lennox (circa 1986) is quoted saying that she wasn't a sex symbol and never would be. I have to disagree. I think that 1985-9 saw Annie presenting herself in a very erotic fashion, having dumped the butch persona of earlier years. Also, I really don't think that a beautiful woman can throw off her skimpy red bra on stage without being a sex symbol. She may claim only to have done so to get a reaction from the audience -well she'd have got a reaction alright! ;)
I don't mean to take anything away from the consumate performer and musician that is Annie Lennox, or to suggest that there is anything wrong with being a sex symbol. What do y'all think? Was she a sex symbol?

I agree - she is a beautiful woman. The problem was her butch look with the Red Hair - just turned people off. I think that people thought she would be a flash in the pan - one hit wonder. Unfortunately, I feel that her and Dave never get the credit they truely deserve for being innovative in their music.
I would say when "Walking on Broken Glass" came out - that is where you could say she was more of a sex symbol - great video - very good song.

I don't think anyone in their right mind can call Annie Lennox a sex symbol. If you want a sex symbol, then your talking about the likes of Kim Wilde and Samantha Fox.

Just my opinion and not trying to be funny, but I have to say Annie's at least a one bagger in this pic.

It looks like that from the pose she is standing at, politely putting it, her left arm is stretching it up slightly.

I was gonna say. She looks like she's hanging even in that bra.

Lol. You are funny, bj26! ;D
I don't think Annie Lennox is my idea of a sex symbol at all.

I think if there is such thing an androgynus sex symbol she might qualify. In that category you could also include Grace Jones, Bret Michaels (when Poison first came out) and Nick Rhodes.

I always thought she was gorgeous. My dad went nuts over her when the "Would I Lie To You" video clip came out. And he went even more nuts at the concert when she stripped down to her bra - he nearly ripped the binoculars off my neck - and we were in the third row.
I think she always exuded that intelligent sexuality - rather than an obvious dumb blond sexuality.
